Itinerary
Once at the meeting point, you will start your tour by exploring ile de la cite, the oldest settlement in Paris. Once known as Lutetia, this former Roman city was the predecessor of present-day Paris, from which the city grew outwards.
From here, you will see the infamous Notre-Dame Cathedral Notre Dame Cathedral (Exterior Only)– the most famous of the Gothic cathedrals of the Middle Ages, distinguished for its size, antiquity and architectural interest.
You will then pass by the Saint-Michel fountain, a monumental fountain commissioned by Haussmann, under Napoleon III. It depicts the archangel Michael vanquishing the Devil, evoking thoughts of the battle between Good and Evil.
Next we will head towards Shakespeare and Company, a bookstore unlike any other. Just minutes from Notre Dame, it is arguably one of the most famous bookshops in the world where literary types from the Beatnik Generation would find a home through the 1950s and 60s.
Following on, you will see the Melkite Greek Catholic parish church, Saint Julien le Pauvre, one of the city’s oldest religious buildings.
You will also see the Roman Catholic church of Saint Séverin, one of the oldest churches that remains standing on the Left Bank and which continues to be used as a place of worship.
After this, we will head towards the Musée de Cluny, also known as the National Museum of the Middle Ages. This museum is partially constructed on the the remnants of the third century Gallo-Roman baths and houses famous collections from the 1st to the 15th centuries.
Next we will head towards the infamous Sorbonne University, a college that became the epicentre of knowledge. The history of the Sorbonne is closely linked to that of the creation of the French university.
We will then head towards the Pantheon (Exterior Only), a building originally built as a church dedicated to St Genevieve, but now functions as a secular mausoleum, containing the remains of notable French citizens such as Voltaire and Rousseau.
We will then go to the beautiful Luxembourg gardens, situated on the border between Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Latin Quarter. The gardens, inspired by the Boboli Gardens in Florence were created in 1612 upon the initiative of Queen Marie de Medici and cover 25 hectares of land.
If we have time, we will see the church of Saint-Éienne du Mont, which contains the shrine of St Geneviève, as well as the tomb of Jean Racine.
We will also pass by the Wall of Philip August, the oldest city wall in Paris. The wall was built during the struggles between Philipp II of France and the Anglo-Norman House of Plantagenet, as the French King ordered a stone wall to be built in order to protect the French capital before leaving for the Third Crusade.

Tamari was wonderful! She was so kind and informative. It was 100 degrees with the heat wave and she went slowly for us, stopped in the shade, took our comfort into account.
Eden was a knowledgeable, informative and fun guide. I will definitely get more out of staying in the latin quarter after spending the afternoon with her.
Our guide Eden was friendly, accommodating, personable and very knowledgeable. She "read the crowd" and paced the tour so that she was able to answer individual questions while imparting a wealth of knowledge. Being a native of Paris, Eden had a wealth of stories about the history of this gorgeous city and area. She shared her knowledge in a conversational fashion, making sure we all heard and had time to make inquiries. If we do another tour here, we will be looking for Eden.
Jay’s walking tour of the Latin Quarter was a highlight of our time in Paris. He was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the area to life with fascinating history and stories—from Notre Dame and its architecture to Marie de’ Medici and the Panthéon. One detail that really stuck with us was learning that three million people walked behind Victor Hugo’s coffin to the Panthéon—just one example of how memorable his storytelling was. I did the tour with my 15-year-old daughter and a friend, and Jay made it engaging and accessible for all of us. It was informative, interesting, and very well-paced. Absolutely well worth doing the tour!
Eden was very caring and thoughtful for a couple who were late, enabling them to join us.
This review is a couple months late but my spouse and I had a lovely tour with Alasdair! He was so engaging and warm, and the time flew by. He had very compelling stories to tell about each site and deftly interwove the important details about French history with some funny, less essential tidbits. You could tell he enjoyed giving these tours, and he was always open to follow up questions. I really appreciated how he had a unique perspective as someone who did not grow up in France, but has made a home in France, has a French spouse, and has clearly reflected a lot on French culture. We highly recommend him, and we would take any tours with him as a guide!
Eden did a great job. It was a nice tour of an area that gets away from the main tourist areas. It was a good change of pace from the "big" sites.
Our tour of the Louvre with Juan Caceres was amazing, He was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about history and art. I highly recommend this tour. Thank you Juan.
This tour exceeded our expectations and was absolutely wonderful. Eden was an amazing tour guide. Eden shared with us not only the history of the Latin Quarter but also provided local knowledge of the neighborhoods we explored. We were very lucky to have had Eden as our guide. It had just snowed in Paris and it was beautiful to walk the area with fresh snow all around us. Eden was kind enough to stop and take photos of my wife and I along the way, and Eden knew all the good stops for amazing photos. It was like Eden was our local Parisian friend showing us around the city. We highly recommend the tour but definitely try to get Eden as your guide!
Ljiljana was a very good tour guide who gave us really interesting insights into the Latin Quarter, along with a warm and welcoming approach.
