Description

Hierapolis ("Holy City") was an ancient Greco-Roman city in Phrygia located on hot springs in South West Anatolia. Its ruins are adjacent to modern Pamukkale. Hierapolis is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hot springs there have been used as a spa since the 2nd Century B.C.E. and people came to soothe their ailments with many of them retiring or dying here. Some of the highlights; the large necropolis is filled with sarcophagi, the main street with the gates and latrines, cathedral, the theatre and St. Philips tomb. The hot springs causing cascades which are called the Cotton Castle. Because of the distance we have to leave Antalya early and return late but its worth it to experience this wonderful place.

Spectacular

Pamukkale, also known as the “Cotton Castle”, is a unique natural spectacle in the world. Located near the city of Denizli, it is famous for its white travertine terraces that look like ice stairs, formed over millennia by the calcium deposits of the thermal waters. You can only enter barefoot, there are the attendants checking. Too bad that now there is only water in the 4 upper tanks, but still it is a great place. In addition to the terraces, the Pamukkale area is also home to the ancient Roman city of Hierapolis, with its well-preserved theater, Roman baths, necropolis and the temple of Apollo. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a perfect blend of history and nature. Another must-see attraction is the Cleopatra Pool, a thermal pool where you can swim among ancient Roman columns submerged, currently closed for restoration, to enter the pool in any case you pay a separate ticket. The entrance fee to the spa and archaeological site costs 30 euros, it is not separable. The site has 3 entrances we chose the one from the archaeological site, the other is more tiring because you have to climb up to the pools. If you have the opportunity go early in the morning, because in the afternoon it is a real anthill of tourists.

Nor worth traveling

This does not worth money and time you spend. The trip takes enormous time , about 4.5 hr , unnecessary stops on textile and stone factory, just spend time . Travel for 8 hours , just agitation to see salt bath , Cleopatra pool is closed and no one tells you in advance . Bad experience

Perfect tour operators in Antalya

Our experience with Solymos Travel was consistently positive – an absolutely recommended tour operator in Antalya! We booked several trips, including to Pamukkale, Demre and Perge, and each tour was a real highlight. From the beginning, the warm welcome and personal advice convinced. Leo and his team really make time for guests here and recommend tours that fit. All tours were excellently organised, with convenient transfers, lunch breaks and well-coordinated daily routines. We were also particularly impressed by the guidebooks: competent, dedicated and with an incredible knowledge of the history of the country. Through their explanations, the places came alive and we got a whole new insight into the beautiful country. Not only did we see a lot, but we also understood a lot – about culture, history and life in the region. If you want to get to know Antalya and its surroundings in an authentic and exciting way, Solymos is the place to be!

Worthy of everything

I had a fantastic experience on the Pamukkale tour from Antalya. Our guide, Dilek Sozen, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made the day truly enjoyable. The vehicle was comfortable, and the timing of each stop was perfect—just ahead of the crowds. The lunch venue and food were outstanding, offering a great variety. Overall, for the amount I paid, the experience far exceeded my expectations.

A punctual and well organised tour to Pamukkale and Heirapolis

My wife and I visited Pamukkale and Heirapolis on 04 June 2025 using Solymos travels via Tripadvisor. We were very happy with how well everything was organised and special thanks to Mr. Baran, our tour guide who was quite knowledgeable and very likeable as a person, always carrying himself with a smile. He told us his stories and a lot about the culture and traditions of the land. He had planned the Pamukkale visit during other operators’ lunch breaks so that it wasn’t very crowded at the site, which was smart, we could get good pictures. They gave us close to 2 hours 30 mins for both these sites (cleopatra pools is unfortunately closed for maintenance). The buffet also is also worth mentioning, quite a lot of options to choose and was tasty. Overall, a very pleasant experience, and an easy recommendation.
