Excellent river boat experience!

This was my third Palo Verde excursion, all booked through Costa Rica Unique. That should tell you everything. If you enjoy spotting native animals in their environment, as well as a boat ride, this is the tour for you. This latest time, Alex was our tour guide. He was knowledgeable, accommodating, and well-mannered, all while also being funny. We got to see huge iguanas, scary looking crocodiles, and the cutest white-faced monkeys. This tour also takes you to see how workers use ox carts and their hands to collect sand and gravel to make concrete. Very humbling.

Operator response

You will love Palo Verde Boat Safari

We had an awesome time on our Palo Verde Boat Safari. The boat ride was incredible. We saw several monkeys, unique birds, iguanas, crocodiles, & even baby crocodiles. Our guides Minisi & Noel were incredible-knowledgeable and funny. They took took a ton of photos for our group, too! We had the best lunch at a local Tico restaurant that included a cool pottery and sugar cane demonstration. Everyone was lovely and nice. We would definitely do it again!

We loved our trip so much. Marvin showed us amazing places along the way, and really took the time to explain things. He is incredibly kind and thoughtful. A wonderful experience and a great value.

The bus picked me up at the arranged place right on time. The guide, Noel, and the driver Jener were very courteous, helpful, and professional. I loved the rustic farm experience and the very unique lunch there. The boat ride on the river, complete with many animal sitings, was a real highlight. You will not be disappointed in this trip.

What can I say but iguanas, and monkeys and oxen? Yes please!

My sister and I also did this tour, and had an amazing time finding out about local industry, wildlife, pottery and of course coffee! Our guide Noel was fantastic, he made sure to get a very knowledgeable boat operator who really was able to find all the wildlife. The park iguanas were the highlight of my trip, but seeing the monkeys was really cool too! The pottery demonstration was very cool and overall a very lovely trip. Definitely recommend!

Excellent excursion!

What a beautiful excursion! I our guide Marvin was super interesting, he showed us several animals that we would not have seen without him. The visit to the ranch to see an ancestral method of making pottery was very interesting as well as the demonstration on sugar cane. The dinner prepared on wood fire was delicious. The boat ride on the Palo Verde River is the highlight of this tour. We had the chance to see several crocodiles, white-faced monkeys that were not far from shore, which allowed us to photograph them. There were many beautiful birds. I really liked and enjoyed this excursion. I recommend it.

Operator response

Not a partial day tour…

The reason for our low score is the length of the tour was not what was advertised and what we were told. We were told it was a partial day tour and would end at 1pm so we conservatively planned on it ending at 2pm. We planned our day around being done by 2pm. We knew from the start we were in trouble when our guide, Harold said he was extending it by 2 hours. Granted everyone but us seemed okay with that. So what could we do? We were already on the bus and afternoon plans that were now shot. We didn’t plan on a full day tours like we had done the day before. I won’t even go on about the guide that certainly liked to hear himself talk. We were not impressed with the style of guide like we had the day prior, which was professional and really great. Any way the over all tour was okay, Lunch was mediocre, the Volcano tour lunch was far superior the day prior. This is your is okay just don’t make any plans for the rest of the day. We like to plan our day and would have not made other plans had we known we would not return until 4pm in advance.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear the experience did not meet your expectations. Regarding the timing, we do not provide a fixed return hour, as this can vary depending on multiple factors such as traffic, group pace, and time spent at each location. For this reason, it is not something we guarantee in advance, and we always recommend keeping the rest of the day flexible. This is a cultural experience designed to showcase the history, traditions, development, and natural environment of the region, including Palo Verde National Park. It is not intended to be a luxury or “fancy” tour, but rather an authentic one, with typical local settings, traditional food, and a rustic, family-style atmosphere. A key part of the experience is having a knowledgeable guide who shares in-depth information about the area. Providing that level of insight is an essential part of the tour, and we consider it an important value for our guests. We appreciate your comments, as they help set clearer expectations for future travelers. Regards Wendy Morales :)
