Jellyfish Lake is one of Palau’s most unique and famous natural attractions, located on Mecherchar Island in the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon. The lake is home to thousands of golden jellyfish that migrate across the lake daily following the sunlight. Visitors can swim and snorkel in the calm lake and experience being surrounded by golden jellyfish. Their stings are very mild and usually not felt by humans, making this a rare and unforgettable experience. Because Jellyfish Lake is a protected natural site, visitors need a special permit to enter. Scuba diving is not allowed, but snorkeling is allowed, in order to protect the fragile environment. It is one of Palau’s must-visit highlights for nature lovers and first-time visitors.

Some of the best coral...

Some of the best coral you will ever see and exquisite marine life. Organisers were really helpful leading up to the event and George (our guide on the day) was also extremely helpful.

The operator is really...

The operator is really easy to communicate with and gave me a lot of information before the trip. They also did their best to fix things they didn’t go well. The captain was very professional and friendly. All in all it was a nice day. As an experienced snorkeler you might not be lucky with every spot so double check wich places are you going to see and if the guide speaks English. But still! Your are on Palau so every place feels exciting and I saw a lot of the underwater life. You also do SUP in the beginning so be prepared for that. The food prepared by the guide on the island was very delicious.

Disappointed

This trip is suited to Chinese speaking people only. Whilst the itinerary said English guide, he could only communicate with iPhone translator. This is a safety issue as I found it frustrating and at one point 3 boats altogether and I was the only westerner there and in the water I almost missed our boat. Whilst the snorkeling sites are nice and I chose this trip because Blue corals and Fantasy coral gardens seemed interesting, however we spent too much time doing drone photography waiting for each person to do their Instagram thing on a boat in Milky Way, ok I’ll accept one but then again after lunch with a canoe. Not for everyone. Viator and Trip advisor should check the language specifications. I didn’t eat the lunch, didn’t have a guide that could explain things in the water nor did I participate in the second drone filming and I still was demanded (several times) to pay the tip. In my case the boat driver was lovely which saved the day and luckily I’d done a couple of other snorkels in prior days.

Day in Palau

This is probably one of the best tours you can take in Palau, definitely the best offered on Viator. No other tours have you catch your own lunch and have it prepared on a private island! The guides cook your fish for you, it’s delicious. Then after you visit some amazing snorkeling sites, including a sunken Japanese ship. The guides are so friendly and helpful, I highly recommend this tour to anyone.

We had a great experience with this tour. We had a fishing experience in the morning, which was then barbequed foe our lunch. We then went to snorkel at Giant Clam City and the Japanese shipwreck site. We joined the tour for the second day (for an additional fee) and went to the Milky Way, Blue Coral Reef and Shark City. Our tour guide was George and he was wonderful! He helped us take some wonderful photos/videos and was overall very helpful.

Snorkelling

The snorkelling sites were great, especially shark city. Getting to swim with reef sharks was a thrill. The freshly cooked lunch by Jerry was delicious!
