Itinerary
Visit the historic Pottery Shrine Meet your guide at the meeting point and start with a quick visit to the Pottery Shrine, where locals once prayed for protection from fire and prosperity in ceramics. It’s the perfect way to connect with the spirit of Japanese dining, since seasonality and tableware are deeply tied to washoku. Originally enshrined in Utsubonami-dori 1-chome, Nishi Ward, Osaka City, it was relocated to its current site due to the laying of the city tram line and road expansion at the end of the Meiji period. At the main shrine, you may notice white paper crosses. These originate from shikigami (ritual spirits) and gohei (sacred paper streamers). In traditional Japanese Onmyodo practice, shikigami are talismanic charms used to ward off evil and grant prayers. The cross-shaped pattern symbolizes protection and the dispelling of negative energy. You might also recognize a similar scene in the famous film Spirited Away.
Enjoy a Michelin-starred kaiseki meal in Honmachi This renowned Japanese restaurant takes its name from the first-generation couple and the concept of bunburyōdō—the pursuit of excellence in both culinary skill and hospitality. Enjoy a blend of tradition and innovation in each dish, prepared by the third-generation chef who continues the flavors and techniques passed down from the founders. The serene interior offers a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle, with elegant Japanese-style decor. Vegetarian, vegan, and halal options are also available, reflecting the restaurant’s consideration for diverse dietary needs. Your guide will explain the meaning behind the plates, the order of the dishes, and the connection to the seasons, helping you enjoy much more than just the flavors. Satisfied and inspired, you’ll be ready to continue toward Osaka’s street food scene.
Stroll a lively shopping street (shotengai) After leaving the business district, stroll through a lively local shotengai shopping street and make your way to Amerikamura, Osaka’s energetic youth culture hub.
Explore a ceramics shop with Edo-era tableware (if open, or guide suggests alternatives) Visit this charming shop specializing in Imari ware and other antique tableware that fits seamlessly into everyday life. The collection features a variety of pieces, from colorful Edo-period porcelain to classic blue-and-white designs. With the concept of “bringing antiques into daily living,” the shop offers a unique opportunity to discover and appreciate the timeless beauty of traditional Japanese ceramics. It’s perfect for those looking to explore Japan’s cultural heritage through functional art.
Taste Michelin-rated takoyaki in Amerikamura Here you’ll taste freshly grilled takoyaki from a Bib Gourmand–recognized shop—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with octopus flavor. Eat like a local by enjoying them in a nearby park or take a seat inside the cozy eat-in space. This stop shows the fun, casual side of Osaka’s food culture, a perfect contrast to the elegant kaiseki meal earlier in the day.
End with matcha dessert near Shinsaibashi or Nanba Station Cap off your journey with a refreshing matcha dessert at a local tea shop, the ideal sweet note after a day of savory delights. With drink in hand, take a short stroll to Dotonbori, famous for its colorful billboards, bustling canal-side energy, and the iconic Glico running man. The lively daytime atmosphere makes for a perfect photo spot. Before saying goodbye, your friendly guide can recommend more local gems to explore, whether you’d like to continue eating, shopping, or discovering Osaka’s neighborhoods. It’s the perfect ending to a well-balanced journey through Michelin elegance, youthful flavors, and sweet tradition.

Absolutely amazing tour guide
Thank you very much for your kind review! We’re so happy to hear you had an amazing experience with your tour guide. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you again in the future!
If you're looking for an authentic Japanese food experience, this food tour is for you. Peco, our guide was excellent! She is lovely, lively and an impressive person. The tour started with a stroll through several different neighborhoods of Osaka, including some beautiful small shrines tucked away in the city. We got to experience a Michelin star restaurant that offered a tasting menu, based on seasonal varieties-this was a "sit down" tour, but it was a welcomed change. After that we got to walk to a Michelin recognized small "hole in the wall" where we got to enjoy the soul of Osaka-Takoyaki. The tour ended with matcha ice cream from a tea shop that has been around since 1865. Throughout the tour, Peco spent time educating us about historical and evolutionary changes of the city. She went above and beyond, and we were a grateful bunch. Okini, Peco!
Thank you so much for your detailed and wonderful feedback! We're thrilled to hear that you had such an authentic and memorable food tour in Osaka, and that Peco made it even more special with her knowledge, energy, and guidance. It’s great that you enjoyed both the Michelin experiences and the local street food, as well as the historical insights she shared. Peco will be delighted to hear your kind words. We truly appreciate you joining us and hope to welcome you back for more amazing experiences in Japan. Okini to you!
We had a wonderful time on this tiur with Peco! She could answer all of our questions about Japanese food or traditions and pointed out a lot of very interesting buildings and places that we were walking by! The tour focuses on lunch at a 1-star Michelin restaurant followed by Bib Michelin street food Okonomiyaki and concluding with a matcha ice cream/green tea for dessert. We really enjoyed all 3 places, Peco's explanations about the food and her company in general. She also sent us some cool recommendations for places to visit in Osaka! I can recommend this tour for any foodies who would like to also hear some more about the food, culture and history of Osaka.

Thank you for recommending the tour to fellow foodies—we truly hope to welcome you again in the future!
Amazing tour. Peco was the best guide. Helpful information. Just the right length. The restaurant was perfect! Even our 13 yo loved it. 11/10 would recommend!
Thank you for your wonderful review, we’re thrilled Peco made the tour so enjoyable for your whole family. We’re glad the restaurant and experience were perfect for everyone.
Our guide Chie was lovely! She taught me how to write my name in Japanese katana characters. If you want a food experience that goes beyond sampling street food, this is the food tour for you. The restaurant meal was a high end experience of traditional kaiseki cuisine served on authentic porcelain from the Osaka region. We did grab some octopus balls street food as well as matcha treats from a vendor with over 160 years in business!
Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re so glad Chie made your food tour special and that you enjoyed both the street food and the exquisite kaiseki experience. It sounds like a truly memorable day!
Our guide Peco was absolutely wonderful on this Michelin Food Tour! The restaurant we went to was beautiful and of course the food was first class. After lunch Peco then showed us around the lively streets and shopping areas where we tried different cooking broths and made some purchases. Peco was extremely knowledgeable and also gave us invaluable assistance with returning back to Kyoto on the train. A wonderful afternoon and experience and would highly recommend Peco as a guide. Peco is very bubbly and friendly and we communicated very satisfactorily.
