Shirakawa-go, tucked away in the mountainous region of Gifu Prefecture, is known famously for its unique architecture - houses with towering triangular roofs, called gassho in Japanese, meaning "to bring ones hands together in prayer." It's also home to two of Japan's National Parks, and is surrounded by lush nature that changes dramatically with the seasons. Bold and vibrant fall leaves, stunning snowy scenery in the winter, speckled-pink flowery sights in the spring, and vibrant verdure in the summer.

Bad service. We wasted a whole day

Buses on time at departure and friendly drivers, too bad that traffic blocked us on the bus and instead of making a two and a half hour visit to shirakawa go we were 45 minutes poor. On the description of the activity c it was written that it started again at 11.50 instead we were even made to go back to 11.30. We asked to be able to get off when we arrived at the village, but we were denied the thing to get to the parking lot, almost an hour and a half after our request. Expensive and unreliable, ideal if you want to waste 9 hours on a bus spending a lot and without visiting anything

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately, traffic conditions on this route can sometimes be much heavier than anticipated. To ensure the safe operation of the service and arrival at the final destination, we occasionally have to shorten the sightseeing time in Shirakawa-go. Regarding the departure time, our guide adjusted the schedule based on the traffic situation on the day in order to avoid further delays. For safety and operational reasons, we are unable to let passengers get off before the designated stop at the official parking area. We understand your disappointment at having less time to explore Shirakawa-go and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Your feedback is valuable and will be shared with our team as we continue working to improve our service.

Tour ended , bus stop directly in front of our Kyoto hotel!

We enjoyed walking around the village, even though it was slightly drizzly. We stopped at a tea house, which was cozy and warm, and I enjoyed the low seating and non-western atmosphere. There were frequent enough rest stops and the trip was an enjoyable change from the bullet train… as we got to enjoy the countryside. The most surprising aspect of this trip was when the bus arrived in Kyoto It was directly in front of our hotel the Sanco Inn in Kyoto, I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place for the bus to stop! We only had about 20 feet to walk to our hotel!

Operator response

Thank you for sharing such a lovely experience! We're glad you were able to enjoy the charm of Shirakawa-go, even in the light drizzle, and that you had the chance to relax in one of the traditional tea houses. It's also wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the scenic countryside along the way as an alternative to traveling by bullet train. What a pleasant surprise that our Kyoto drop-off point was right in front of your hotel! We're delighted that it made your arrival so convenient. We hope to welcome you on another LIMON Tours journey in the future!
