Then you will be transported to the Necropolis of Thebes, the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank of Luxor. This ancient necropolis is a must-see for Luxor travelers. There you visit four royal tombs, including the Tomb of Ramses, the Tomb of Horemheb, the Tomb of Merenptah .Valley of the Kings on the West Bank of Luxor.

25 min

Tomb of King Ramesses lX was the third pharaoh of the Twentieth Dynasty of the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. His name prior to assuming the crown was Amonhirkhopshef. He was the fifth son of Ramesses III and was appointed to the position of the crown prince by the twenty-second year of his father's reign when all four of his elder brothers predeceased his promotion to the crown prince. The tomb has so much colour and details even the ceiling above the sarcophagi with its goddess Nut stretching across space. The sarcophagus is one of the largest in the valley, even though some of the paintings have deteriorated this is one of the most decorated.

25 min

In Egyptian mythology, Ptah is the demiurge of Memphis, god of craftsmen and architects. In the or simply in its falcon form of the new deity, it began to be placed in tombs to accompany and protect the dead on their journey to the West of Luxor. Tomb 8, which is located in the Valley of the Kings, was the burial place of the Pharaoh Merneptah and is the model of royal tombs Merneptah was a son of Ramesses II and Queen Isis-Nofret.the tomb was discovered by Howard Carter in 1903. Of course there is a material decrease in the number of lateral rooms, and a dramatic increase in the height of the corridors and rooms. He did away with the jogged axis used since the time of Horemheb and instead built the entire tomb on a single axis. Also, for the first time, the entrance was made considerably wider than earlier tombs.

25 min

The tomb of Ramesses III, designated as KV 11, is a complex system in the Valley of the Kings. It has been known since antiquity, the wonderful decorations include colorful painted sunken reliefs featuring the traditional ritual texts (Litany of Ra, Book of Gates, etc) and Ramses before the gods. Unusual here are the secular scenes, in the small side rooms of the entrance corridor, showing foreign tributes, such as highly detailed pottery imported from the Aegean, the royal armoury, boats and, in the last of these side chambers, the blind harpists that gave the tomb one of its alternative names: ‘Tomb of the Harpers.

The sunrise hot air...

The sunrise hot air balloon ride was great. I had booked a private tour for the day, but did not realize this portion is shared. Beautiful experience and well piloted by Dr. Mo. Being able to see the Temple of Karnak is King Tut's tomb/Valley of the Kings is not to be missed. There is not a lot of shade and it's very hot, but worth it. Seeing the sites in person made seeing the artifacts and what was pulled from the sites at the New Egyptian Museum truly amazing. Besides, Luxor runs at a much different pace than the chaos of Cairo.

Everything Luxor In One Day

I will share information with you that I not already listed under the tour information. - Expect a FULL day. We were picked up at 4AM and dropped off at 6PM. - The hot air balloon ride is highly dependent on near perfect conditions. Be mentally prepared if it doesn't work out. - A photo and video service during the balloon will be offered for an additional 25€ (the quality of pictures taken were great) - After the hot air balloon ride, we're surprised to continue with a private tour (with the famous Dr. Mo) - At the valley of the kings, although the ticket allows 3 tombs we only had time to see 2. - For Dr. Mo to tell us the story of King Tut, it was an additional $30USD/person. I didn't feel it was worth it. You can read the information off the informational board. - The place you will be brought for lunch is a tourist trap, about $20USD per person. - The tour brought us to hands on experiences- Alabaster Store, Perfume, and Papyrus. It was very cool, but every place we went I felt obligated to buy something, hopefully you can have better will power than me! Don't be afraid to negotiate!!! It was be better to split all the things we saw between 2-3 days. But if you only have one day like us, this is a great tour!

Believe the negative reviews

Dr hassan and driver Ahmad were friendly and knowledgeable. My review is for the tour company. I booked my tour for the 5:30 AM tour and it was supposed to be the hot air balloon and east and west banks. The night prior I got a WhatsApp message saying I got upgraded to the 4:30 AM tour and I needed to pay $20. I just said I will meet you in the lobby tomorrow morning After they showed up at 4:30 AM, they took me to the hot air balloon place and over there they demanded I pay them $20 to which I said no I’m not giving you anything because I already booked and everything was supposed to be through the website. They said it’s only customary and $20 not a lot. I said if it’s not a lot then you shouldn’t be asking for it. And I didn’t get an upgrade because technically I had to wake up an hour sooner so that was an inconvenience to me. I got on the hot air balloon in a bad mood then after that, they brought me back to my hotel in Luxor around 7 AM. They told me my driver would be here at nine. The driver and the tour guy did not show up until 10 AM. It’s not his fault, but the tour company is very scam scandalous and sleazy. I would not book with them. Very poor communications. I didn’t know if he was going to show up or not.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback. We always take guest comments seriously, however we would like to clarify a few important points for transparency. The night before the tour, you were offered an optional upgrade to the 4:30 AM balloon flight with an additional cost of $20, and you agreed to join the earlier flight. When you later declined to pay the upgrade difference, our team still allowed you to take the upgraded flight without any additional charge as a gesture of goodwill. After the balloon ride, you were informed that the meeting time for the continuation of the East and West Bank tour would be 10:00 AM, and our team arrived at the scheduled time. We are pleased to see that you mentioned in your review that Dr. Hassan and driver Ahmad were friendly and knowledgeable, and that the trip itself started well. As confirmed, you received the complete tour exactly as booked. Our company is committed to providing professional and transparent service to all guests, and we are proud of the experience delivered by our team.

Great tour

We had an absolutely incredible experience with our tour guide! From start to finish, everything was seamless, engaging, and thoughtfully planned. What truly stood out was how knowledgeable and informative they were — every stop came with fascinating history, local insight, and stories you wouldn’t find in a guidebook. On top of that, they were amazing at taking photos! They knew all the best angles, lighting, and hidden spots to capture the perfect shots. Not only did we leave with unforgettable memories, but we also have beautiful pictures to prove it. Professional, friendly, patient, and passionate about what they do — I couldn’t recommend this tour guide more. If you’re looking for someone who will elevate your entire experience and make it both educational and fun, this is the one to book!

5/5 - Incredible Luxor Tour by Knowledgeable Guide

100% would recommend to anyone visiting Luxor and wanting a knowledgeable guide, with time for photos built into the itinerary. Unfortunately our Balloon ride was cancelled due to weather, so be aware that could happen anywhere. Our tour guide Dr. Mo, who also works as an Egyptology professor, was extremely friendly and shared all the information you could ever want about each site we visited. I will 100% be recommending him to any friends or family who visit in the future.

"DOCTOR" MO IS A BIG NO NO! find an honest guide. He is not.

Dr Mo a big NO NO!!!! SCAM ALERT! what a horrible experience. where to start... the day before he contacts us asking for 40 USD extra as he needed to change the time of pick up in the morning...from 5.00am to 4.00am (apparently nobody was in our slot) I was firm and refused to pay more...they came to pick us up a bit late and went straight to the balloon...guess what...we took off at the time we had initially booked...Once the balloon finished... ( short of 30 min, ) we were taken to a cafe to wait for Dr. NO. We were waiting for him for AN HOUR. when he showed up, at around 8.30 instead of going straight to the Valley of the kings, he took us to a BAZAAR! we were utterly upset, not only us...but the rest of the peole on the tour...so we ended up going to the Valley of the kings at the rush hour just because of his delay and comission driven decision of going to a bazaar...when we arrived at the valley of the kings, it was full on oven, crowded and with big lanes. HE GAVE US HALF AN HOUR with the warning that he would leave us on site if we didn't turn out on time!!!! as he was adamant to take us back to the hotel at 2 and we were running late...mutiny started. we said there was no way to see anything in half an hour taking into account the queuing lines...also asked us for extra 20USD each to guide the Tut visit, but more interestingly, he said that this was the only way. we refused. Said we did not need any guiding. He was seething! (second try to extort 20 USD, failed) we managed to extend the visit another half and hour...because we demanded more time. After that Hatshepsut, he told us we had two options guiding explanation in the van, or outside...we thought the van could be a good place to start and gain some time...he gave us a 5 min ridiculous briefing...and off we went, no guiding tour in the temple at all! after that, he took us to a restaurant (again in partbership with him) where they were asking for a ton of money for lunch. we refused to fall prey in fact NOBODY had lunch at Dr. NO joint. and again left for the next visit...karnak temple...this time we skipped the "van" tour guiding and he had to step out to do his job. What a horrible attitude...5 min in and he was gone. The less guided tour in the whole Egypt trip. he told us to be on time for pick up, the van ( a complete piece of trash) showed up 15 min later, he did not bother to show up, and the remaining Luxor temple visit included in the tour gone too...Unprofessional falls short to describe his modus operandi. The greed, the lack of love for his country and the people visitting it. I never write reviews this lengthy but my dear fellow travelers STAY AWAY FROM DR. NO. Book Nice Tours instead. Some people deserve to have their tour guide licence removed for good.

Operator response

We are genuinely surprised by the content of this review, as it contains several serious claims that do not reflect the reality of our operations or the experience offered to our guests. First, we do not charge last-minute extra fees, and any change in pickup time—when occasionally required due to aviation regulations or balloon flight logistics—is always communicated clearly and never associated with any additional payment. Our records also show that your pickup and balloon schedule matched the standard timing for all guests on that day. Regarding the balloon flight duration, all flights follow the permitted airtime set by the Civil Aviation Authority. No company can shorten or extend flights beyond the official guidelines. As for the sightseeing portion of the tour, it is important to clarify that: • No guest is ever forced to shop, and any stop is entirely optional. • Entry times at sites like Valley of the Kings depend on national holiday crowds, security checks, and your own group’s pace. • The guiding inside tombs such as Tutankhamun’s is prohibited by law, so no guide can provide in-tomb explanations — therefore any suggestion that we sell “extra guiding” inside the tomb is simply untrue. We are also disappointed by the personal attacks and the disrespectful language used toward our staff member. While we welcome all criticism, we cannot accept false accusations or misrepresentation of our service. We work hard every day to deliver safe, organised, and enjoyable tours, and thousands of guests have had wonderful experiences with us. We still wish you the best in your travels and hope your future experiences in Egypt are more positive. Dr Mo tours Team

Awful - stay away from Dr Mo

Stay away from this tour especially if led by Dr Mo as guide! He was mostly interested in scamming money, at the first site after the ballon was the Colossi of Memnon, where he spent more time explaining about buying alabaster stone which he then takes you immediately for shopping (obviously for commission). The worst part was when he tried to scam us that we must pay him 20USD each as a group, if we chose to go to Tutenkhamun tomb at Valley of the kings we must use him as guide and that “was the rules” to pressure us to go along with it - so it was either we each pay him extra for the guide or we can’t go at all ourselves. The whole group became so outraged we challenged him that we wanted to go to King Tut without his guide. Eventually he backed down but not without a challenge - and it definitely was not “in the rules” of the tour which he clearly made up. The time given at the Valley of the kings was another joke in itself, after all the challenges we had to do and his faffing he gave us 30 mins to go to 3 tombs, this again raised more revolt from the group as clearly if he didn’t take us to the alabaster shopping beforehand for commission we would have had more time at the most important site - Valley of the kings! In regards to Dr Mo’s actual guide and information provided - this was the bare minimum, a few lines of introduction and tells you that’s it - all the while his phone is going off constantly. The whole tour (apart from the balloon as no involvement of Dr Mo) was highly not enjoyable with Dr Mo, that was very evident from the entire group! Stay away!

Operator response

We are genuinely surprised by this review, as it contains several claims that are simply not accurate and do not reflect how our tours operate. Our team — including all freelance guides — follow strict guidelines regarding timing, entrance fees, and optional tours. No guide is ever allowed to demand extra payments, invent “rules,” or prevent guests from entering any site. If any guest chooses an optional activity (such as entering Tutankhamun’s tomb), they always pay directly at the official ticket office, not to the guide. This is standard in Luxor and cannot be changed by any individual guide. Regarding shopping stops: All guests are clearly informed that shopping visits are optional, and many groups actually enjoy them. No one is ever forced to buy anything, and the short stop does not affect the main itinerary unless the majority of the group wishes otherwise. As for timing at the Valley of the Kings: The schedule is always fixed by the Ministry of Tourism, the balloon flight authorities, and the official opening hours — not by any guide. Delays usually happen when guests request extra discussions, photos, or additional stops. We never reduce the time in the Valley unless requested by the group. We also found it surprising that the reviewer claims the entire group was “outraged,” as no one from the group submitted a single complaint to us during or after the tour. When a problem truly exists, guests report it directly and we take immediate action — but that never happened in this case. We respect all travelers, but we cannot accept misleading or exaggerated accusations that do not match the reality of the tour. Our balloon experience and full-day tour are enjoyed by thousands of guests every year, and we remain committed to providing a transparent, safe, and memorable experience to all visitors.

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE

We have booked the ballooning with guided private tour of The Valley of kings. The bus arrived half an hour late at our hotel. The ballooning experience was wonderful, however afterwards our travel experience was appalling. We were brought back to our hotel and NOT to The Valley of kings as booked. The guides in the bus were very unhelpful and rude. We then got in contact with Sainap of Dr Mo tours which after realizing her fault BROKE UP contact. We paid EUR 150 for half of the trip. No coming back of the agency after multiple request for contact by WhatsApp, phone and hotel. Very bad experience. Untrustworthy and cheating.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. While we are glad to hear that the hot air balloon experience met your expectations, we are truly sorry for the misunderstanding that followed. We would also like to clarify several key points regarding your booking. Your reservation was made through a combined package operated by multiple providers, including the balloon company and a separate tour operator responsible for the Valley of the Kings visit. The transportation and guiding after the balloon flight are handled by the tour operator listed on your booking — not by the balloon company itself. Regarding the return to your hotel, this happened because the guide assigned to your post-balloon itinerary did not receive the updated confirmation for your Valley of the Kings tour. This appears to be a coordination error, not an intentional decision to “cheat” or deny service. We sincerely apologize that you felt the staff on the bus were unhelpful. This is not the standard of service we expect from any partner we work with, and your comment has been forwarded to the operator responsible for this part of the tour. As for the communication issue, the representative you mentioned did not “break contact.” Messages were reviewed while the team was trying to confirm whether the second part of your tour could still be provided the same day. However, because the time window had already passed, the tour could not be arranged. We acknowledge that communication should have been clearer and faster, and we are addressing this internally. Regarding the payment, you were charged the rate of the full package by the booking platform. Since only the balloon portion was delivered, we agree that a partial refund is appropriate. If you have not already received it from the platform, please contact us with your booking reference so we can escalate it directly with Tripadvisor/Viator and ensure it is processed. We deeply regret that your experience after the balloon flight did not reflect the service standards we strive to provide. Your feedback is valuable and will help us improve coordination and communication with our partner operators.
