The National Guard Monument sits on the spot (WN72) where the 29th National Guard Division broke through German defenses on D-Day, June 6, 1944. The monument and the original bunker which it sits atop are maintained by NGEF to preserve the legacy and pay honor to all National Guardsmen who have fought in the European theater.
At Easy Green sector, two monuments were erected after the war and still stands facing the beach : Monument « Signal of the Liberation » (photo stop on the spot) This Monument commemorates the landing of the Allied Forces on June 6, 1944 on Omaha Beach, and the liberation of Europe. Two frescoes can be seen on either side of the monument, one dedicated to the 1st US Infantry Division, the other at the 116th Regimental Combat Team of the 29th US Infantry Division. Monument « The Braves » (photo stop on the spot) A monumental work by sculptor Anilore Banon which pay tribute to the courage of Allied Forces soldiers. There you will have a bit of time to walk along the beach and maybe grabb a bit of sand to fill in a tiny glassed container as a souvenir to bring back home.
Overlord Museum chronicles the period of the Allied landing until the liberation of Paris. The collection was collected by someone who was both a witness to the conflict and involved in the reconstruction of Normandy. Personal items from individual soldiers and armoured fighting vehicles from the six armies in Normandy will be presented as a series of reconstructions showing over 35 vehicles, tanks and guns.
The monument of the 1st US Infantry Division (Red Sector / Easy) in the form of a commemoration-obelisk. The obelisk stands in the middle of the area of Wiederstandsnest (WN62). WN62 was one of the strongest defending positions in that area. WN62 or Widerstandsnest 62 (Resistance Nest 62) overlooks Easy Red and Fox Green Sectors of OMAHA Beach at Colleville sur Mer. WN62 was the most powerful resistance nest on the OMAHA beach coastline.
The guide is now taking you to visit the beatiful maintained American Cemetery in Colleville sur Mer which overlooks Omaha Beach nearby. The 180 acre site contains 9,387 perfectly aligned white crosses and a memorial chapel which adds the finishing touches to this moving scene, allowing visitors to reflect on the price of war. While walking along row upon row of white grave headstones, your historian guide will share with you stories of soldiers who fought in the vicinities and then were awarded for gallantry the highest miltary decorations. On the Walls of the Missing, in a semicircular garden on the east side of the memorial, are inscribed 1,557 names. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified. The memorial consists of a semicircular colonnade with a loggia at each end containing large maps and narratives of the military operations; at the center is the bronze statue, “Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves.” An orientation table overlooking the beach depicts the landings in Normandy. Facing west at the memorial, one sees in the foreground the reflecting pool; beyond is the burial area with a circular chapel and, at the far end, granite statues representing the United States and France.

We took a private day tour to Normandy from Paris ! It was well worth the money . Family of 4 travels in a black Mercedes van ! Very comfortable, water and charging cords available! Gilles Lorand was our guide from Finding France tours . He was extremely knowledgeable and very informative! He took us to a wonderful local family owned restaurant. We saw Omaha and Utah beach , the American cemetery and several other sites in Normandy . Gilles walked us through the entire events that transpired up till D-Day and beyond ! Make sure to bring cash to tip !
This tour was beyond our expectations. Régis is an excellent driver, his van is both spotless and comfortable. Régis is well versed in the history of Operation Overlord and his delivery of the facts included maps and relevant photographs that supported the discussion. He planned our tour so that we were either before the other tours at the various locations or after. This allowed us to have the time that we each needed to reflect without feeling rushed and to take photographs that did not include hordes of people. When the emotionality of the events that occurred during Operation Overlord took hold, he was both compassionate and understanding. Régis is a true gem.
Had a great trip and Regis was a wonderful guide that made the tour very informative. We will certainly use Regis the next time we tour Omaha Beach or any war time destinations.
My daughter and I went to Normandy Beach. It was one of our favorite places. Regis, our guide was the best! He was so knowledgeable, patient, and kind. His English was very good! He dropped us off right in front of our hotel. We felt very safe with him. I would definitely book again with Viator.
My wife and I just spent a week in Paris and the highlight of our trip was the day with spent with Regis in Normandy. To start, Regis was communicative and punctual as far as instructing us where to meet him early in the morning. He gave a warm welcome and we got on the road for our journey to Normandy. On the way, Regis provided valuable historical information about the Allied forces invasion of Normandy to give us context for what we were about to see firsthand. We spent the day on the beaches, museums, and the cemetery under his guidance. Regis has extensive knowledge and has a passion for his job making his tour such a great, memorable experience. I definitely recommend hiring Regis and Adrian Roads if you're looking for the best tour of Normandy!
Just got back from this amazing and very moving trip to Normandy. Regis was our guide and he was the perfect mix of information and space to enjoy the day. We were picked up at the door to our hotel and after a long day dropped off there as well. We stopped at Pont Du Hoc, Omaha beach (where Regis encouraged me to collect a tiny bit of sand), the Caen Peace museum and bunker, and the american cemetery. Such an important piece of history and a truly priceless experience. I strongly recommend this tour it was once in a lifetime!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour and would highly recommend it. Regis did an outstanding job from pick-up to return to Paris and all in between. He was pleasant to be around (important as we're all together approximately 12 hours!) and very informative as he took us to many parts of Normandy. Walking on Omaha Beach, visiting the American Cemetery and more, with Regis' informative commentary, was a memorable experience.
