The next stop of our tour is Yanartaş (Chimera / Fire Mountain). This is a striking destination where nature and legend come together. Known since ancient times, this area is famous for its “eternal flames,” created by natural gases emerging from the rocks and igniting upon contact with oxygen. It offers a particularly impressive atmosphere at night, providing visitors with an unforgettable experience. According to mythology, these flames are believed to be the fire of the legendary three-headed Chimera monster, which continued to burn even after being buried underground. For this reason, the area has been surrounded by legends for centuries. Today, Yanartaş is one of the most popular stops visited after sunset. As darkness falls, the flames rising between the rocks become more visible, and guides enhance the experience by sharing fascinating mythological stories about this natural wonder.

The trail uphill is very exciting, although a bit tiring. However, since the descent takes place in the dark, it's important to consider the following before the trip: 1) Bring a flashlight for a safe descent (the trail is completely unlit); 2) Wear more athletic footwear; 3) For small children (ages 3–5), completing the trail may be physically challenging and dangerous. We did a jeep excursion from Kemer with 3 nine-year-olds, and it was an amazing experience! The jeep ride itself was fun and adventurous — mountain roads in the forest, beautiful scenery, and great vibes all around. Çıralı Beach was peaceful and beautiful, the hike to the Chimera flames was magical (and doable with kids), and exploring the ancient city of Olympos was unforgettable. We ended the day with a delicious late dinner at the traditional Botanik Restaurant – everything was fresh and flavorful. A perfect mix of adventure, history, and nature. Highly recommended!
