Bluefield Tea Gardens was started by a visionary banker, Maurice Worms, in the early 1800s. Acquiring forest lands in 1841, he initiated tea cultivation, marking the birth of the small tea garden that evolved into Bluefield Tea. Over the years, Bluefield grew, weathering challenges and contributing to Sri Lanka’s tea industry. Today, Bluefield Tea is a story that continues to unfold with every harvest and every poured cup, inviting enthusiasts to savor the essence of this extraordinary journey. 1830'S Pioneering Planting James Taylor plants the first tea seedlings in Loolecondera estate, laying the foundation for commercial tea cultivation in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka).

The Nuwara Eliya Post Office, built in 1894, is a two-story, red-brick building in the Tudor style, featuring a clock spire. It's a prominent landmark in Nuwara Eliya and one of the oldest buildings in Sri Lanka. Located on New Bazaar Street in the center of the town, the Central Market of Nuwara Eliya is a wonderful and chaotic place that is full of color and life. Rows of stalls sell winter and warm clothes to visitors for use in the chilly climes there. Vegetable sellers jostle for space alongside fruit sellers. Brightly colored flowers drip onto the sidewalk as flower sellers hawk their wares. Tiny stalls sell local tea or curios for interested buyers. However, the bright and lively aura of the place conceals the serious deals and negotiations that take place here.

Dhivan was amazing! Great experience

Dhivan was simply amazing! Very helpful, informative and went above and beyond to show us all the best places and provide great history and knowledge - along with a lot of laughs and fun along the way! Last but definitley not least - he was a true life saver when I fearfully found a dreaded leach on my leg and squealled like a maniac! He calmly pulled the tuk tuk over, quickly and calmly removed the leach from me, and then promptly drove us to the nearest location to get first aid and leech repelant supplies! Truly thankful we found Dhivan, Nura Eliya was great, but meeting Dhivan was absolutely in the top highlights of the visit!!

Top day, highly recommended

Divan is a very good tour guide, nothing is too much. We have seen 2 tea factories, 2 waterfalls, post office and central market. He really took his time, stopped at different vantage points, stayed a long time when we were walking or at the tea factories and also when we wanted to eat or drink. We had a very nice day. His brother was a driver, good duo. We also asked Divan and his brother for the next day to take us to Hortons plain very early and the day after to the station in Ambewela also very early. They were always on time (always a bit earlier). We also got several good tips for restaurants. Recommended!

Interesting tea making process and great views

Ashan was very professional and knew very well all the stops along the way, including many viewpoints which I highly appreciated as I love to take picture. Two tea factories included - one you have free tasting included, another one you have to pay if you want to taste the tea. The climb to Ramboda Waterfall is abrupt and demanding, but you see a very big waterfall. All stops are along the route from Nuwaraeliya to Kandy, so if you go to Kandy you donțt have to come back to Nuwara Eliya.

Nice tour from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

Dhivan was recommended to us by friends. We had a good time! He drove us from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, while showing us the main sights and tea factories. We really enjoyed the tea tasting! Dhivan also took us to a rice&curry place for lunch, which was amazing! Would recommend this tour, affordable price.

Nice sightseeing during taxi drive to Kandy

We met Divan on the bus from Nuwara Eliya to Hatton. We immediately felt comfortable with him, and he offered to take us from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. Along the way, he showed us several beautiful viewpoints, waterfalls, and a tea factory (including tea tasting). Divan is very friendly and reliable, speaks good English, and was very knowledgeable about Sri Lanka. It was inexpensive. We highly recommend traveling with Divan.

Very nice tour!

Dhivan picked me up at the station in Nanuoya and brought me to the hotel. The day after I did an half day tour with him to 4 waterfalls, a tea factory with a free tasting and the post office. I spent a really nice time and I can confirm that he is very good at taking pictures 🙂
