Northern Lights Superjeep Tour from Reykjavik

Description
This northern lights tour in Iceland takes you in an original superjeep out of town to avoid light pollution so as to observe this fascinating natural phenomenon also known as the Aurora Borealis. Given clear skies and a little bit of luck, sightings can occur from autumn to spring. The main 4X4 superjeeps are Land Rover Defenders and 6-door Ford Excursions. All are modified with big 40- or 46-inch wheels ready for the mighty challenge the tours offer every day, all year round! The jeeps are equipped with an extra fold-down step for easy accessibility, luxurious leather seats, air-conditioning, WiFi, GPS, first-aid kit, trackwell, and other sorts of security equipment. Behind the wheel on the tours are experienced driving guides that sure know how to maneuver such big jeeps in the wilderness and highways of Iceland. Great trip! Loved our guide Keli. Was very dedicated to making sure we had a great time and an amazing view of the lights. Very knowledgeable and engaging about the history and culture of Iceland. Took many excellent photos of us under the lights, and was efficient in getting us the photos the next day. Highly recommend.
We took private 10 seat super jeep northern lights tour with Birgir. We travelled with 3 little ones and my elderly mother. Birgir went above and beyond assisting us with car seats, ensuring everyone could get in and out of the car safely, and making everyone as comfortable as possible with his hot chocolate, entertaining Icelandic stories and history, and parking the jeep to minimize the intense winds. He was patient and knowledgeable, and we got an amazing lights show. As someone who is not easily impressed, this tour gets 10/10 hands down! Thank you super jeep and Birgir!
An Unforgettable Night Hunting the Aurora: Superjeep.is If you are traveling to Iceland and want to see the Northern Lights during a winter trip, booking a Northern Lights Superjeep Tour from Reykjavik by Superjeep.is is, without a doubt, the best decision you can make! We just returned from a magical 4-hour excursion (roughly 9:00 PM – 1:30 AM) and cannot say enough good things about the experience. It is worth every single króna of the price, which, based on 3/2026 rates, is roughly $230 USD per adult. Flexible Pick Up & Professional Service The convenience started right at the beginning. They offer flexible, prompt pick up directly from hotels or designated bus stops in Reykjavik (Bus Stop 1 or Cathedral) around 21:00–21:30, ensuring a stress-free start to the late-night hunt. Unlike the huge tour buses that are restricted to main roads, the Superjeep is a beast—specially modified with massive tires that allow you to go off-road into the remote wilderness, far away from light pollution. Patient & Expert Guides Our guide Chrissie was an absolute legend—patient, knowledgeable, Icelandic humor and genuinely committed to finding the very best viewing spot. Even when the lights were faint, he didn't just give up. He tracked the cloud coverage and moved us to multiple locations until the sky cleared always in contact with other 'hunters". They knew exactly where to go, passing all the crowded, standard bus stops to get us to a private, pitch-black area. Drinking Warm Chocolate Under the Stars While waiting for the aurora, the atmosphere was incredible. The guide set up a tripod for professional photos of us with the lights. To keep us warm against the biting Icelandic winter cold and wind, they served steaming, delicious warm chocolate—and yes, it was the perfect touch, especially when offered with a little splash of vodka to warm your soul!. Seeing the Aurora Borealis Seeing the Northern Lights dance across the sky was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thanks to the expertise of the Superjeep guide, we saw the Aurora swirl in vibrant colors. If you are looking for an intimate, thrilling, and successful Aurora hunt, skip the big buses and go with Superjeep.is. It is a premium, high-quality experience that we will never forget! Highlights: Price: ~230+ USD (as of 3/2026, often includes free re-booking if lights aren't seen) Time: ca. 4 hour evening adventure (typically starts around 21:00pm) Pick-up: Flexible hotel/stop pickup Atmosphere: Small, intimate groups, patient guides, and amazing off-roading
We were lucky enough to see the lights after racing to at least 3 different locations outside Reykjavik. The guide had a decent camera and tripod in order to take photos of us with the lights in the background and gave us a link to be able to download his photos. He was helpful in showing us the best settings to use on our phone cameras as well. A thoughtful touch was a cup of hot chocolate with vodka to keep us warm at midnight.
Seeing the Northern Lights is a once in a lifetime experience. If the conditions are right, Reykjavik is a good place to go and engage the right people to help find them for you. This outfit is first rate and well worth hiring. They were determined to find cloud openings and give our small group a first class experience. And they did it with humor and fun as we chased around the countryside for the best place that night to see the Lights. Once there, they took great fotos for us and let us linger until we were all satisfied. I highly recommend this company.
Very well organised, very good trip, no complaints, we also saw a most fantastic display of Northern Lights
Kelly took us out on our first night in Iceland for the Northern Lights Tour and we had the best experience to kick off our trip. He picked us up from our hotel, immediately pointed out the northern lights in the sky (!!!!) and raced us off for a better view. His excitement throughout the night was half the fun. We were lucky to have an INCREDIBLE light show that night. Kelly taught us so much about the lights, how to get great photos, snapped every photo we could image, and genuinely had a great time learning about Iceland and being a local. We left with so much knowledge which made the rest of our trip even better and prepped us to correctly view the lights which we saw every night for the remainder of our trip. I cannot recommend Superjeep and specifically Kelly enough. He really made the start of our trip everything and more. We will use him again on our next trip!
Super cool experience! Saw a beautiful aurora on the second attempt. Despite clear conditions on the first night, it didn’t appear when we were out there but viewing the night sky was an experience in itself. Being in the Superjeep felt like a night safari…hunting for the northern lights.
Thanks Superjeep and the guide (I don't remember the name jon something like that). Cloudy and windy day but the guide looked for openings until finding a fair opening in the sky. Great aurora activity we saw as it varied. One of the reasons for hiring the tourism company was precisely the experience they have.
I was very disappointed with this experience. I booked a three-night trip to Iceland to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday and, in advance, booked and paid in full for three tours during our stay, including this one. I deliberately scheduled the tour for our first night in case it needed to be cancelled due to adverse weather or other circumstances beyond our control. Unfortunately, we received a notification only four hours before the scheduled start time on the first night informing us that the tour would not operate due to bad weather. Although disappointed, I rescheduled the tour for our second night. However, on the afternoon of that day, we received a similar message advising that the tour was again cancelled due to poor weather conditions. When I attempted to reschedule for our third and final night, I was informed that the tour was fully booked and that no availability remained. I therefore initiated the refund process with the tour operator. I was surprised to receive a response stating that it had been noted that we wished to reschedule for the third night, but that the tour was fully booked for both our second and third nights and that efforts were being made to recruit additional vehicles and drivers. This raised concerns as to whether the cancellations were due to overbooking rather than weather conditions, which I feel would be unfair. Overall, this was a very disappointing outcome. This trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and potentially our only opportunity to see the Northern Lights, which we had been greatly looking forward to. On a positive note, I would like to acknowledge and thank the tour operator for processing the refund promptly.
