Al Khor is a coastal city in northern Qatar, located 50 kilometers north of the capital, Doha. Considered one of Qatar's largest cities. Al Khor is home to many employees of the oil industry due to its proximity to Qatar's northern oil and natural gas fields and to Ras Laffan Industrial City. It is one of the proposed venues for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The Purple Island, also known as Al Khor Island, is a beautiful place in Al Khor, about an hour's drive from Doha. It is a small island, connected to the mainland by a narrow path that is broken at different points to allow water to flow towards the mangrove forest.
Al zubara also known as Fort Zubara(h) is a historic Qatari military fortress built under the oversight of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani in 1938.
Al Jumail, an abandoned pearling and fishing village north-east Qatar, which was founded in the 19th century and was inhabited well into the 20th century, prior to the economic boom that the petroleum and gas industry brought along. The town's name comes from the Arabic word "jameel", which means "beautiful"; a reference to the trees that grow in the area year-round. According to Wikipedia, In the 1820s, George Barnes Brucks was tasked with preparing the first British survey of the Persian Gulf and He documented Al Jumail in this survey, referring to it as "Yamale".

The tour was amazing. Al Khor, Purple Island, Zubara Fort and the Al Jumail abandoned village are beautiful places. Anees was an amazing tour guide. 5 stars.
Our group (4 people) was picked up from the hotel in the Landcruiser. We had a very young guide who drove us from one point to another. There were no explanations for the individual stages, so he was more rider than tour guide. Also the specified time per stop is not correct, that always includes the arrival. So from 45 min Al Khor stayed 5 minutes, in the fish market, one round, out and on. The Purple Island can be reached with a brisk sprint over the jetty in the planned 15 minutes stop, there, back, further. Fortunately, the Zubara Fort is equipped with many notice boards, so you can make yourself known. The tea or coffee mentioned in the itinerary was cancelled due to Ramadan. Overall, the tour is already very interesting, the contrast between Doha and the hinterland could not be greater.
Nice tour and getaway from the city. Rizwan was a good driver and caring guide.
Very awesome experience. Our host was very friendly and informative. He took us to the mangroves, Purple Island, an abandoned village, a fort and even went off road to show us these sculptures in the middle of the dessert. Very nice of him. Excellent experience.
Guide was very attentive, the tour eh long but he was super helpful in every detail. At the stops we had enough time to take care of everything.
My tour guide Saad is really knowledgeable and interesting. He made the tour enjoyable and engaging. I really enjoyed the tour and had fun seeing the north of Qatar.
Thank you Saad Ahmed for a great tour!
We were never picked up, the driver's car had broken down. We were told he would be there 2 hours later, when we asked where he was, he wrote that he was on his way. After another 35 minutes of not hearing from him, we cancelled the trip, he never returned. Really bad service. Now we are anxiously waiting to see if Viator will refund our money.
We had a wonderful experience on this tour, and our guide Saad was outstanding. He was friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable, making the entire tour both informative and enjoyable. Saad shared great stories and insights that really brought the places we visited to life, and he made sure everyone felt comfortable and engaged throughout. The tour was well-organized and moved at a perfect pace, never feeling rushed. Saad’s positive energy and attention to detail made a big difference, and it was clear he genuinely cares about providing a great experience. I highly recommend this tour. It was a memorable and enjoyable experience from start to finish.
Wonderful day! We learned so much about the history and culture of the area from our guide as he drove us to the sites. We visited the pearl diving village reconstruction on the way back. We finished the day at the Qatar history museum and walked to the market. If you only have a day to visit, this should be on your list!
