Located near the town of Ninh Binh, 90 km south of Hanoi, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital is the capital of an ancient Vietnamese Kingdom called Dai Co Viet in the 10th century. This small Kingdom covered an area of only 300 hectares, and reigned from the 10th century, during the Dinh and Le dynasties, to the 11th century, during the Ly Dynasty. The Kingdom was enclosed by a citadel. The citadel and the Yen Ngua limestone hills provided a good defense for this kingdom against the Chinese. Hoa Lu is an ancient city surrounded by the Trang An limestone mountains. Its northwest is bordered by the Hoang Long River, the tributaries of which run through the capital, cooling the weather within the city and serving as convenient waterways. Hoa Lu is known as the first capital of Vietnam with a wide range of historical landmarks. In 968, King Dinh Bo Linh of Dai Co Viet (an old name of Vietnam) constructed his capital in Hoa Lu and ruled until the year 980.
Tam Coc-Known as “Halong Bay on land”, Tam Coc is a must-see place for first-time visitors in Ninh Binh. The 2-hour boat ride in Tam Coc will start from Van Lam Pier, run along Ngo Dong River, beautiful rice paddies, unique limestone karsts, and pass underneath three caves. Just remember to keep your head low in the boat to avoid hitting on the low ceilings of these unique mountain erosions. With 127m in length and 20m in width, Hang Ca (First Cave) is regarded as the longest one and contains the most fascinating natural art deep inside. You may feel amazed at how your boat captain uses their legs to row the wooden paddles. Don’t forget to turn on your camera to record these beautiful moments. Here, you may feel like disappearing from the real world and getting lost in such a hidden fairy site.
Mua Caves is one of the most famous attractions in Ninh Binh tourists almost will decide to visit it when they have a bunch of information about the history and King Kong’s land (Appeared in the film “King Kong”). Only Mua Cave brings you a chance for viewing the picturesque landscape of Tam Coc from the peak above. Mua caves viewpoint- one of the most attractive tourist places in ninh binh recently one of the most attractive tourist spots near Hanoi. Ninh Binh and its karst surroundings there are many beautiful tourist spots around Ninh Binh town mostly in Trang An scenic complex one of these places in this complex are the Mua caves hang múa and its peak mountain from which is a fascinating view of the nearby surroundings this is one of the most visited places in the area that you should not miss there are about 500 steps on the 2 peaks and viewpoints the highest viewpoint is the Lying Dragon Mountain with its stone statue of Quan am (The Goddess of Mercy).
This and the combination of little traffic and flat roads makes cycling the best way to get around. A very welcoming extra is that you will find stunning scenery between these destinations. Biking in Ninh Binh brings you through beautiful rice fields, small rivers, towering limestone cliffs, and buffalo’s and goats walking freely over the roads. The total time of the Tour is 12 hours, and the remaining time, around 6 hours, will be used for transportation between attractions.

If you you choosing between Ha Long bay and Ninh Binh, pick Ha Long bay over Ninh Binh. Photos on this tour is very deceptive and does show the true the experiences. Weather in April is scorching hot and didn’t help at all. The river boat ride is very long 2hr or so. If you don’t tip the boat riders what they ask for, they get very angry. Tour guide was polite but spoke extremely little English.

The tour guide Happy and the driver Mr Le were amazing. It is a jam packed day, well worth the price! We started with a short push bike ride, visit to a temple, another push bike ride, lunch (lots of options!), boat ride through the rivers of Ninh Binh (amazing views) then I climbed a mountain which also had stunning views! Lots of opportunities for pictures! If it is hot I’d recommend you dress accordingly (long sleeves, hat, sunscreen) and bring water, although the do provide water on the bus. There are alternate options if you are unable to to do the push bikes or hike. Great for anyone. I would definitely recommend this tour.

We booked a last minute trip from Hanoi to Ninh Binh and it turned out to be one of our favourite tours! Our tour guide Bao was great at explaining the history behind each site and he was very attentive to any questions or concerns that we had. The scenery was spectacular. I would recommend this tour to anyone who comes to Hanoi.

We booked the Ninh Binh tour with Vietnam Exploration through Vũ Thanh Hằng and everything was very well organised from start to finish. She always listened to our requirements , concerns and tailored the tour to our needs. She also made sure to check in with us time to time to make sure everything’s going well. The tour began from picking us up from our hotel, accommodation at calm and quiet Tam Coc bungalow and action packed day tour in Ninh Binh with breath taking scenery. Once the tour was concluded we were dropped back to our hotel in Hanoi. I must mention our tour guide Sùn who did a fantastic job with sharing the Vietnamese history, culture and giving us clear directions to engage in the planned activities. I highly recommend Hang Vu for tours in Vietnam.
