Itinerary
You will be picked up from your hotel promptly at 5 am and taken to the border where your guide will help you every step of the crossing, which takes approximately 30 minutes. The guide will facilitate the process for you and will take care of all the passport and visa procedures. From here we will travel to have a good breakfast to start the day.
Here you will enjoy an amazing view over the crater of the dormant volcano, Granada and Lake Nicaragua. You will be allowed to walk freely for a while before getting back on the bus and heading to the next stop.
Do some inexpensive souvenir shopping and experience the Nicaraguan way of life before sitting down to a typical Nicaraguan lunch.
An Inactive volcano where you will have the opportunity to stand right next to its crater and listen to it rumbling and spewing gases. An incredible view.
An old colonial town near Lake Nicaragua. Stop at the Iglesia de La Merced, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Granada. It is flanked by a large tower that houses the church bells. You will go up the stairs and you will reach the roof of the church. From here, you will have a panoramic view of the city of Granada, the Mombacho volcano and Lake Nicaragua with the islets. This is the perfect place to take pictures of the beautiful city and the surrounding area.
The Islets of Granada are one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Nicaragua. They are located on Lake Nicaragua (Lago Cocibolca), near the city of Granada, and form an impressive archipelago with more than 360 small islands. These islands originated thousands of years ago when Mombacho Volcano erupted and large rocks were ejected into the lake, forming the small islands that are observed today. Currently, many of the islands are covered with tropical vegetation and some have private homes, hotels or restaurants. During the boat tour of the islands, visitors can enjoy scenery, abundant nature and bird watching, as well as learn about the history and culture of the region. It is also possible to see monkeys, tropical birds and local communities living around the lake. The Islets of Granada offer a quiet and picturesque experience, becoming one of the most visited and photographed destinations in Nicaragua.

Great day although lots of driving we loved this day trip. The stops were quick but thought out. Food at both stops was incredible. Everyone was friendly. Boat trip was nice (accommodating me for motion sickness and taking a different route) Granada stop was quick but lovely. Drivers and guide (Eddie) were all great! Very informative. Only thing I would suggest is to have a better description of crossing the border. It was a bit tricky to navigate with limited Spanish knowledge and very little signage. Perhaps a little drawn map or description/diagram would be helpful or photos of the buildings. Otherwise a wonderful trip! Highly recommend if you only have a day to spend. (A note that the driver drops you at the Costa Rica border and you walk through to the other side where the guide is waiting for you to take you through Nicaragua side. And visa versa on the way back (although a bit more confusing as there is no real signage as to where to re-enter Costa Rica) )
The tour was extremely thorough from pickup to drop off. We saw plenty of sites, the guide was extremely knowledgeable in history and culture (he was also really funny) the breakfast and lunch stops were delicious, and we took plenty of pictures to capture the moments.
