New Mexican Flavors Food Tour of the Santa Fe Plaza

Itinerary

10 min

You will see the heart of Santa Fe, where the city began, while you gather a brief intro history.

As we stroll to our first stop, we will see the Basilica built in 1866.

During our intro talk we will be in the plaza, directly in front of the Palace of the Governors, the oldest public building in the US.

We will stop and tell the story of the Miraculous Staircase build in 1888 inside the Loretto Chapel. We do not enter the Chapel but do encourage entry after our tour to spend significant time in the museum. There is a $5 entry fee to the Chapel.

The oldest church structure in the US, build in 1610, by hand with a group of friars and local indigenous people. We do not enter the San Miguel Mission but recommend that you revisit after the tour ends. There is a small entry fee into the Mission and the museum of $4.

We will catch a glimpse of the "Roundhouse" which is the Capital building of New Mexico. You will learn a bit about the architecture and the reason the structure was build round.

A "Must-Do" Experience

This is an awesome way to experience Santa Fe's history, culture and food. We were a group of 5 and everyone absolutely loved the experience. The food and drinks were amazing and Jose is a wonderful and charming tour guide. We look forward to returning and signing up for one of his other fine dining tours!

Top Priority for your Santa Fe Visit

This food tour must be included as a top priority for your Santa Fe itinerary! Our guide Jose has a gift with his knowledge of the region, the foods served, and ability to make it fun. Each dish was spectacular and the experience reminded me of a progressive dinner.

Unforgettable !!!!’

As we leave Santa Fe, we have decided our food tour was the highlight of our trip! Jose, was awesome and had a plethora of knowledge about the history, food, culture and tequila of New Mexico. We highly recommend. We went into our tour thinking the trip to NM was a one and done. We will now be coming back with what we have learned.

Santa Fe Food Tour with Jose Lopez - engaging, learning, sensational - all we could ask for and more!

Before our Santa Fe travel, we read numerous articles and watched videos on the food scene. We felt we knew it well, but we had so much more to learn. It was so worth our money & time to do the tour on our first day in Santa Fe.

Disappointed

I felt that this was mediocre. The food was nothing special and we went to restaurants that I definitely would not have on my “to go” places to eat. The sampling sizes were just right. I felt that the margarita tasting with each tasting was interesting since it offered a variety of tastes at each restaurant. The tour guide enjoyed hearing himself talk and our questions were quickly dismissed or challenged with him going back to his voice box. He was knowledgeable but I got tired of him defending the food after he asked for our opinion. Perhaps my palate is a bit more upscale so this wasn’t exactly for me. The owner was communicative and pleasant to deal with.

Great Food, Great Learning

Jorge was an exceptional guide. Born and raised in Santa Fe, he shares his intense interest and knowledge about everything Santa Fe. We enjoyed the extra time he allowed our group and the supplemental materials he texted to us. Great food and learning.

Don't waste your money

I wish I had something nice to say but this was not a pleasant experience. The food was mediocre at best, 1st stop 2 tamales, 2nd stop one small street taco 3rd stop a small cup of soup, 4th stop a churro for dessert all for $150. NOT WORTH IT. The guide spoke like he was in a race to the finish line. All 4 of us left disappointed by the food and and the whole experience
