NEW Amsterdam Breakfast Food Tour with Stroopwafel Workshop

Description
This breakfast tour is designed for travelers who want more than just food: they want to experience Amsterdam like a local. Set in the lively De Pijp neighborhood, your morning unfolds at the famous Albert Cuyp Market, a cornerstone of daily Dutch life for over a century. Begin in a family-run bakery with coffee and a freshly baked classic Dutch savory pastry. Then step into the market with your guide, where you’ll meet vendors and hand-pick ingredients like Gouda cheese and traditional ham. These ingredients come to life at a welcoming lunch café, where your Dutch savory pancake is freshly prepared, simple, comforting, and deeply local. As you walk, discover the stories behind De Pijp, from its artistic heritage to iconic local figures. Finish with a fun, hands-on stroopwafel workshop, crafting and tasting one of the Netherlands’ most beloved sweets.

Itinerary
Visit a three-generation historic family bakery, one of the few in the Netherlands to hold a Royal Warrant, where you'll taste a classic Dutch saucijzenbroodje. You'll experience traditional baking firsthand while enjoying this flaky, savory pastry that locals love as a simple breakfast or snack.
Amsterdam’s most iconic open‑air market: a lively, buzzing food lover’s paradise in the heart of De Pijp. Wind through 250+ stalls filled with fresh produce, Dutch classics and multicultural street food. It’s a feast for the senses and a must‑visit spot to taste real Amsterdam life.
You’ll stop at the Albert Cuyp Market to sample traditional Dutch Gouda cheese. You’ll experience its smooth, creamy texture and slightly nutty flavor while learning why Gouda is an essential part of Dutch breakfast and lunch culture, and a source of pride in local cheese-making traditions.
You’ll visit a Butcher for traditional Dutch-style ham, learning about Dutch butcher traditions, artisanal meat preparation, and the role of quality meats in everyday local lunches. It's an essential ingredient for the savory pancake enjoyed later on the tour.
Enjoy a freshly made Dutch savory pancake, topped with the cheese and ham you selected at the market; simple, comforting, and served in a cozy local café.
Named after Samuel Sarphati, a physician from 1813, who transformed Amsterdam’s public health by improving hygiene, creating affordable bread factories, and installing water pipelines, while also advancing education, industry, and city planning, leaving a lasting impact on the city.
Walk through De Pijp’s art-inspired streets, honoring Dutch painters, then visit André Hazes’ statue to feel the city’s musical soul. Pass by Sarphatipark, learning how Samuel Sarphati transformed Amsterdam through public health and urban innovation.
At the Stroopwafel Workshop, you’ll get hands-on and make your own iconic Dutch treat. Learn the history and technique behind these thin waffles filled with warm caramel, then enjoy your freshly baked stroopwafel straight off the iron, perfectly sweet and delightfully memorable.

Mickey was so vivacious and personable and kind and knowledgeable. Lovely and authentic experience - did not feel ‘touristy’. Thank you.
Thank you for the nice review. We are glad to hear you had a great and authentic experience on the Jordaan food tour with Micky!
We tried food unique to Amsterdam and learned about the history of each dish. Tasty foods and an enjoyable walk in a neighborhood and thru a market
Hello, thank you for joining our De Pijp Food Tour! We’re glad you enjoyed the tasty foods, learned about their history, and had a fun walk through the neighborhood with Danielle.
Elena was a wonderful tour guide. We stopped at about 4 restaurants and a real cheese shop. We walked everywhere and she did a great job of giving us an overview of the area and where we were going and the bites we were trying. Great small group tour and the food was amazing! Highly recommended.
We had a fantastic food and market your with Danielle. Her personable and professional style was second to none. Additionally her friendly nature was apparent with the vendors and we really got the best out of this tour. We really appreciated Danielle shared the history of Amsterdam and Dutch food. Highly recommend.
So happy we booked a tour with Eating Europe. Danielle was the best tour guide! We could’ve chatted and shared food with her all day. She was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and introduced us to some amazing food in a great neighborhood. From meat filled pastry, to herring, cod fritters, apple pie and so much more. We not only tasted the food but learned about its history. Can’t say enough about what a wonderful experience it was!
What a great food tour! Our 4th one in two weeks and by far the best! Our guide, Gerard, was such a pleasure to be with - teaching us food history and Amsterdam history in an enjoyable way that engaged parents and teens alike. The food was plentiful and delicious and catered to our dietary restrictions. Highly recommend this tour!!! So glad we did it:). Thank you, Gerard!
Excellent tour with great knowledge of the city and Netherlands history. The food choices were excellent and represented the experience beautifully. Wonderful day
Our guide was Danielle, and our tour was at the beginning of July 2025. From the start, she did a perfect job of bringing together different personalities and backgrounds over something universal: our love of food. She made the bustling city feel like a small town; her charm and wit are quite captivating! We made six stops of her choosing, and despite the immense heat of the day we joined, she ensured we were able to stay hydrated by making sure each stop had water for us. The variety of the stops allowed for us to expand our horizons beyond what we would’ve found on our own, and the personalized anecdotes for the foods we tried were handy, entertaining, and helped us understand Amsterdam even more. We wished we could’ve grabbed a picture with her and tipped her for the service, but the heat of the day led us all to leave our last stop promptly.
An enjoyable afternoon eating our way around the Albert Cuyp Market area with our guide Danielle. The tour took us to a series of restaurants, shops and cafes to taste different foods, some Dutch, some imported into the Netherlands through the migration of people to the city. It was an enjoyable way to stay out of the sun and learn a little about the city from a different perspective.
Excellent tour. Paul was both entertaining and insightful. Had a wonderful time and the food and drink was both plentiful and delicious!
