My Split: A Diocletian's Palace Walking Tour & Local Stories

Itinerary

10 min

Your meeting point and the beginning of your tour.

10 min

Firstly you will stop by the model of the Diocletians Palace where the story unravels.

10 min

The closest entrance and the most unique part of Diocletians Palace, the substructures are a representation of the Palace we know today and are one of the best preserved models of ancient Rome.

10 min

A striking circular hall at the heart of the Palace, once serving as the grand entrance to the Emperor's private quarters.

10 min

An ancient central square of Diocletians Palace located in front of the Emperors private quarters. Worldwide phenomenon with stunning scenery.

Admission not included10 min

A former mausoleum for the Emperor, now the main cathedral in Split. Visit only from the outside (entrance fee not included)

10 min

The main entrance to Diocletians Palace reserved for the Emperor only. The Gate is holding a special secret called the Propugnaculum

10 min

The tallest statue in Split made by one of the most famous sculptors Ivan Meštrović serving as the gatekeeper of the Palace. His toe is a symbol of good luck, therefore feel free to rub it.

10 min

More commonly known as 'Pjaca' the big square is a representation of Split growing in size in Medieval times, as it is not in the Diocletians Palace itself. Each palace on the square represents the spreading as they are all built in different centuries.

10 min

As it was formerly a green market, it retained a variation of the name. The most important attractions on this square are the Marko Marulić statue - the father of Croatian literature and the Venetian fortress, a symbol of their rule from the fifteenth century.

Over and beyond our expectations

Our walking tour with Irena was over and beyond our expectations. She is professional, knowledgeable, fun, passionate, caring, truly authentic. The tour was not cookie cutter -- she tailored topics to our interests and was expert in answering our questions. The small group size made it personable and we left feeling like privileged guests.

Perfection

I had an amazing experience with Irena. She is truly passionate about what she does, and her explanations are always clear, engaging, and easy to understand. The day before my tour, a group of seven people cancelled. Irena personally contacted me to offer two options: I could either join another group on a different day or receive a full refund if I wasn't comfortable taking the tour on my own. This thoughtful gesture perfectly reflects her professionalism, kindness, and genuine care for her guests. I 100% recommend this guided tour—not only because of the wealth of knowledge you'll gain, but also because of the warm, personal experience you'll have. If you're looking for a guide who is both highly knowledgeable and truly cares about her visitors, Irena is the perfect choice.

Fabulous tour and fabulous guide!

Irena actually covered a walking tour my partner and I booked and I am SO glad she did! Irena is from Split and has a very clear love and passion for her city and it’s rich history. The tour was full of detailed historical accounts, as well lots of humour and kindness. Irena generously provides honest recommendations on “dos and don’ts” in split which was welcomed. 10/10 recommend Irena as a tour guide!

One of the best walking tours we had during our trip. Irena is very charismatic, friendly and full of knowledge, but the tour never felt boring or too serious. She tells history in a very interesting and fun way. We loved hearing local stories and learning more about Split and Diocletian’s Palace. Thank you for a beautiful experience and we definitely recommend this tour!

A tour deserving of a review ❤️

I’m not usually someone who writes reviews, but after this tour, it genuinely felt deserved. We joined Irena’s tour spontaneously while visiting Split with friends from Germany, and it ended up being one of the best decisions of the trip. Even though Split is my hometown, I still found myself learning new things and hearing stories I’d never known before. What made the experience special was how naturally everything flowed. Our whole group was completely engaged the entire time, and everyone kept talking about it afterwards. Irena was incredibly warm, knowledgeable, and generous with her time, even after the tour officially ended. She answered every question and gave us amazing recommendations for the rest of our stay. You can really feel the passion behind what she does, and it made us all appreciate the city even more. Wholeheartedly recommend joining her tour if you have the chance =)
