Allow plenty of time to soak up the well curated exhibit. And, if you're lucky enough to get a reservation at Le Jardinairre, enjoy a sumptuous meal.

A wonderful cultural experience!

I enjoyed the beautiful artwork and the special exhibitions. We also attended an amazing poetry jam by high school students.

Compact Collection

I visited the Museum of Fine Arts while in the area at Hermann Park as I had never been before and the collection looked interesting from what I could read about it. The museum is split into three buildings: the Kinder Building houses Modern and Contemporary Art, the Law Building contains Global Art, and American and European galleries are in Beck with all three connected via a tunnel at the lower level. The size of the galleries really depends on the region. The Islamic art collection, particularly from Iran and the Levant is solid and other collections of notable size include the Indigenous Americas and Africa galleries. Some of the other galleries, most notably the Japanese and Chinese galleries are quite small in comparison to comparable museums. Admission prices aren't too steep and the gallery isn't very crowded so if you have some time it's worth checking out, particularly if you have an interest in works from the regions that contain the larger collections.

Plan to Spend the Day

Parking is very expensive. The price of admission generously covers the Glassell School of Art, Sculpture Garden, Kinder Building, Law Building and Beck Building.

It was a lovely...

It was a lovely experience. I hadn't been back and some time and was surprised and pleased with the new additions. I love how they've incorporated couture dressed into the exhibits. The arrangements are beautiful.

go there during the free admission Thursdays

it's free admission to the permanent collection every Thursday, so we went there during the free admission time, although admission if free on Thursday, you still need to pay the parking which was $10 at the time we went there. It's just like an ordinary museum, showing the art of different regions, e.g. Egypt, Greece, etc. also has some modern art, but there is a room with lights hanging in a mirror room which is beautiful, but you need to line up and wait to enter that room, but worth to go in.

Our evening at the museum!

My wife and I have been Houston Museum of Fine Arts members for two years. Membership, has been one of our best decisions. Having access to high-quality interesting museum-offerings is important to us. Last month we attended the complimentary Friday night happy hour + Jazz concert + access to the Tamara Lempicka exhibit. Ours, was a wonderful evening in the most perfect setting. Every aspect of our evening at the museum was enjoyable. The jazz concert and museum exhibition, were stellar. Afterwards, learning how much my wife had enjoyed our evening together, has inspired me to soon plan another museum event.
