This experience blew me away! Everything was so spontaneous, lively, fresh, and exciting. I learned a lot about life at Mama Lucy’s in Lengijave, which is just a bit outside Arusha. The area is also great for walks and hiking, and I was deeply impressed by the landscape. With the help of the host, I was also able to make a traditional Maasai dress for myself and take it home. It was also super interesting to learn how cow dung is used for railings and house facades.
Hi Charlotte, Thank you very much for your wonderfully detailed review. Our host truly enjoyed welcoming you and sends warm greetings. It is great to hear that you had the chance to try various hands-on activities and create something meaningful to take home. We are also delighted that the gentle rise next to the village left such a beautiful impression on you. Your kind words mean a lot to all of us at Kanga Homestay.
Mama Lucy is full of joy, and there were a wide range of interesting activities in and around the house. She is also a former English teacher, so communication is never a problem. What I got to experience through the activities: hikes, making Maasai bracelets, spontaneous dancing, a school visit, cooking together, and a community meeting on Saturday morning. There’s so much more, but I didn’t have time for everything. I was constantly impressed by how beautifully she dresses, whether for an official meeting, visiting a neighbor, or driving the cows to the field.
Thank you so much, Manuela, for your thoughtful review and for sharing your experience with Mama Lucy. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the variety of activities, from hiking and cooking together to joining community moments. It makes us very happy that communication with Mama Lucy, with her background as an English teacher, made everything smooth and personal. We also loved receiving the three beautiful photos of Mama Lucy, they capture her joyful spirit wonderfully. We look forward to welcoming you again whenever you return to Tanzania.
It was very different from what I expected. Personal, genuine, and actually well organized. Many companies offers visits to Maasai villages, but those often feel staged. This experience by Kanga Homestay was truly differant. P.S. The “Upendo Group Meeting” was amazing!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your stay! The Maasai community in Lengijave was very happy to have you as a guest. We agree that Kanga Homestays truly reflect how local life is.
