Mt. Kilimanjaro Trekking; Northern Circuit Route - 9 Days

Description
The Northern Circuit route is one of the best routes on Kilimanjaro, offering nearly 360 degrees of beautiful scenery including the quiet, rarely visited northern slopes. As the longest route on Kilimanjaro, the Northern Circuit also has the most acclimatization time and the highest summit success rate. Thus, the Northern Circuit route is highly recommended. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the rainforest to Shira Ridge, before crossing the Shira Plateau. The route then heads north and circles clockwise from Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp to School Hut, before summiting from the east. Descend is made via the Mweka route.

My Dad and I booked with Wence after a personal recommendation from a friend who did the Northern Circuit a year earlier. He was extremely happy, and I'm glad to say that so are we. Wence was very professional and responsive during the planning process. On the second day of the trek my dad got quite sick in the gut. This is likely from the airline or hotel, not food on the trek. The entire crew was very patient with him, making sure he made it to camp, where the next day he was able to be driven off the mountain. One guide (Fredi) went down with him and looked after him - including a very competent medical clinic - while I continued trekking. Dad says that he couldn't have been looked after any better, which we are both very appreciative for. He made a quick recovery back to full health. As I continued, the crew was super flexible, combining a few days so that it became a seven day trek, allowing me to get down to Dad sooner. This did not rush or take away from the experience. I really enjoyed the rest of the trek, and couldn't fault a thing. My guide Allen was a joy to walk with. When he could see that I had experience hiking, he allowed me to set the pace in places, but still ensured we conserved a good amount of energy for the summit. We made it to the summit just before sunrise, and enjoyed the quiet of being the second group up. It was magical! Both guides, Allen and Fredi, were very experienced and knowledgeable. All in all, I highly recommend Intrepid Treks and Safaris if you would like to be guaranteed great service and a great experience.
