Moroccan Cooking Class with Local Amazigh Family in Medina Rabat

Description
Come experience authentic Moroccan and Amazigh culture with my family in the old medina of Rabat! Your adventure begins as my father welcomes you and teaches the art of Moroccan tea-making. My mother and I will guide you step by step to prepare ANY Moroccan dish you want from Tagine, Touscous, or Rfissa.....etc. (vegetarian/vegan available). You'll grind Amlou using a +120 years old grinder, learn to make Tafarnout bread over charcoal, then eat it warm with honey, butter, olives, and olive oil while the main dish cooks. Because we love sharing our culture, we often surprise guests with an extra traditional dish! For unforgettable memories, dress in our Berber wedding outfit and real silver jewelry. Then we gather to enjoy the feast you helped create, sharing stories and laughter around our table. You'll leave with new skills and the warmth of Moroccan hospitality. Available daily at 11:00 AM or 4:00 PM. Join us for delicious food, cultural connection, and a true family welcome!

My daughters and I had a wonderful time with Anouar and his mother and aunt! Not only did we make a fabulous dinner together (bastilla, Moroccan mint tea, amply, Inkan bread) we learned a lot about Moroccan and Amazigh culture. Anouar is a skilled communicator and an excellent host. His mother and her sister are delightful, fun, and skilled cooks. They were so excited to share their traditions with us. We left with full bellies, warmed hearts, and satisfied souls!
Thank you so much! 🧡 It was such a joy having you and your daughters on our rooftop. I'm so glad you enjoyed the Bastilla, the bread, the tea, and everything in between, and that you felt the warmth of my mother and aunt. They were truly touched by your kind words. Leaving with full bellies and warmed hearts is exactly what we hope for every guest. You're always welcome back to our home! Warmly, Anouar & Family 🇲🇦
We had an excellent time. We were warmly welcomed in a family setting. The explanations were clear. The place is very beautiful. We recommend this wonderful experience 100%!
Merci beaucoup, Kathleen ! Bien chaleureusement, Anouar & Famille 🇲🇦
My husband and I booked this experience during a weekend trip to Rabat, and it ended up being the absolute highlight of our visit to Morocco. If you’re considering it, don’t hesitate, it is worth every cent. From the moment we arrived, Anouar made us feel incredibly welcome. His English is perfect, which made everything easy and allowed us to have genuine conversations throughout the afternoon. What really sets this experience apart is that it doesn’t feel like a tourist activity, it feels like being welcomed into a family’s home and sharing a piece of their daily life and culture. We had the pleasure of meeting Anouar’s father, Abdellah, his mother, Samira, and his sister-in-law, Nawal. Every member of the family was warm, kind, and eager to share their traditions with us. Together, we learned how to make homemade peanut butter and prepared a delicious chicken and vegetable couscous completely from scratch. We were also taught how to prepare traditional Moroccan tea, a skill we’ve continued to use since returning home. The experience was wonderfully hands-on, and we were involved in preparing the meal before sitting down to enjoy it together. One of the best aspects was the amount of time spent simply talking. We learned so much about Moroccan culture, family life, traditions, and everyday customs. Anouar answered every question we had with patience, openness, and genuine enthusiasm. As an added bonus, we also had the opportunity to try on traditional Moroccan wedding attire, which was a fantastic cultural experience and made for some wonderful memories and photos. In fact, Anouar took photos throughout and sent them to us, which is a really lovely momento of our time with them. What made this experience so special was the authenticity. There was no sense of being rushed or following a script. Instead, it felt like spending an afternoon with friends while learning about a fascinating culture through food, conversation, and hospitality. We’ve done many tours and activities while travelling, and this stands out as one of the best we’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t just a cooking class, it was a genuine cultural exchange and a memory we will treasure for years to come. Thank you, Anouar, Abdellah, Samira, and Nawal, for your incredible hospitality. We left with full stomachs, new skills, a deeper understanding of Moroccan culture, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Thank you so much Erin! 🧡 Reading this truly touched all of us, my father Abdellah, my mother Samira, my sister-in-law Nawal, and me. We're so happy that your weekend trip to Rabat ended with such a meaningful memory. Knowing that you still make Moroccan tea at home makes us smile, that's exactly what we hope for: not just a meal, but skills and stories you carry with you. You and your husband were wonderful guests, curious, kind, and open to everything. It felt like sharing an afternoon with old friends. Thank you again for your beautiful words. You will always be welcome on our rooftop. Warmly, Anouar & Family 🇲🇦
This was a truly wholesome and amazing experience. The host and their family treat you like their own, creating a warm, genuine home feel. We loved getting our hands dirty making tagine, peanut butter paste, and mint tea from scratch. Watching the Mama prepare fresh butter and couscous was beautiful, and everything tasted delicious. Their home is a lovely setting for the activity. Getting to dress up in traditional wear made it even more special and fun. Do not miss this!
Thank you so much, Angela! 🧡 We're so happy you and Jithin had such a wholesome time on our rooftop. You really embraced every part of the experience, from getting your hands dirty making tagine and Amlou to dressing up in traditional wear with so much joy. And yes, Mama was so touched to read that you enjoyed her prepare the fresh butter and BERKOUKS (the amazigh couscous). Those little touches come straight from her heart. You're always welcome back to our home! Warmly, Anouar & Family 🇲🇦
Outstanding experience! The entire family was incredibly warm, welcoming, and hospitable, creating a truly authentic, homely atmosphere from start to finish. Making traditional tagine, peanut butter, and mint tea completely from scratch was highly engaging and rewarding. Every single thing we made tasted absolutely amazing. To top it off Mama thoughtfully surprised us with delicious couscous and incredible homemade, creamy butter, which was a beautiful and unexpected gesture. I highly recommend this to anyone seeking a genuine, interactive, and delicious cultural experience!
Thank you so much, Jithin! 🧡 Reading this truly made my mother smile, especially because you mentioned her couscous and homemade butter. She puts so much love into those little surprises. I'm really glad you and Angela felt the warmth of our family and enjoyed every step of the experience, from grinding Amlou to pouring tea. You're always welcome back to our rooftop! Warmly, Anouar & Family 🇲🇦
Five stars are not enough for the special experience we lived with Anouar and his family. It's not only a delicious cooking experience but also a possibility to approach from a closer point of view a fascinating culture. All was good organized but without having the pressure of time so we enjoyed every moment. I hope to come back soon to try other recipes!
Thank you so much, Emma! 🧡 "Five stars are not enough" reading this truly touched me. I'm so glad you felt the culture, the love, and the relaxed pace we try to create on our rooftop. You're always welcome back to try more recipes and make more memories! Warmly, Anouar & Family 🇲🇦

It was a wonderful experience and a great way to start our adventure in Rabat. Anouar was very good at communication even before the day and when I was inquiring about booking. His whole family were lovely and truly made you feel at home. Would highly recommend to anyone, no cooking knowledge required.
Thank you so much, Stephanie! 🧡 I'm so glad your adventure in Rabat started on our rooftop, that means a lot to me. It was a pleasure hosting you and your husband, and I'm happy you felt at home with the family. You're always welcome back! Warmly, Anouar & Family 🇲🇦
I wish there were more stars to rate our experience. Anwar and his family were warm, friendly, inviting and incredibly gracious. We had the opportunity to spend time with a local Berber family, to prepare traditional food in a traditional manner and to learn more about the Berber culture. The experience exceeded all my expectations and I can’t recommend this experience enough. Thank you again for a great introduction to the Berber culture and for being such great hosts.
Thank you so much, Lori! 🧡 I'm so happy you enjoyed the time with our family and that the experience gave you a real introduction to Berber culture. That's exactly what we hope for every guest. You were wonderful to host, thank you for bringing such great energy to our rooftop. You're always welcome back! Warmly, Anouar & Family 🇲🇦
We have gone to cooking classes in other countries that we have visited, but this one was by far and away the very best! Anouar and his family were warm, welcoming and took the time to explain every detail of the meal and the tradition it held in their country. We eagerly participated in the preparation of making bread in a clay oven, chopped vegetables and seasoning for tangine, and pressed fresh peanuts to make peanut butter which, along with fresh honey was added to couscous. The family also outfitted us in traditional wedding dress which was a delightfully fun addition to an already memorable experience. We were there for approximately 3 1/2 hours, and frankly the time went by so quickly…THAT’S how much fun we had. If I could give this review more than 5 stars I would in a heartbeat. Run, don’t walk to this memorable experience!
Thank you so much, Steve! 🧡 Reading this honestly made my day. I'm so glad you and your group enjoyed everything, from pressing the peanuts and baking bread to trying on the wedding outfits. And knowing this was the best cooking class you've taken means the world to us. You were a joy to host. Thank you for the energy and laughter you brought to our rooftop. You're always welcome back! Warmly, Anouar & Family 🇲🇦
