Itinerary

Admission not included360 min

In the morning, your 4WD coach picks you up from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, then travels to the ferry to Moreton Island. During the 75-minute ferry ride across Moreton Bay, take in views from the deck or cabin, keep an eye out for dolphins and other marine life. When you reach the island, your 4WD-vehicle drives along the sand to the Tangalooma Wrecks where you have several options for beachside fun. Follow your guide on a snorkeling tour of the famous shipwrecks; the 15 vessels were purposely sunk here to create a breakwall. This resulting reef is home to colorful corals, tropical fish, trevally, yellowtail, wobbegong, kingfish and more. If snorkeling doesn’t appeal to you, use the provided transparent bodyboards to paddle in search of turtles, reef fish, coral and other critters, or simply relax on the white-sand beach. After the snorkel tour, your guide serves a picnic lunch before leading a tour on transparent kayaks to explore the Tangalooma Wrecks. Stay dry as you view an amazing array of fish right below your kayak. (Please note that a 4WD tour around the island will replace the snorkeling and kayaking if conditions are unfavorable). Next, hang on tight as your driver takes your 4WD on rough inland tracks to tall sand dunes that are ideal for sandboarding, a fun, high-adrenaline activity comparable to tobogganing. It is possible to reach speeds of up to 30 mphr (50 kph) as you zip down the dunes. After sandboarding, return to the coast and enjoy a swim at Tangalooma Beach (if time allows). Then catch the ferry back to the mainland and reach Brisbane or the Gold Coast in the evening.

GREAT guides!!

Keith, Jacob and Josh were all so welcoming. They made sure everyone was ready and comfortable with each experience. This was my favorite excursion I have done with Viator. Jacob was very personable and got to know us during the day! It was like being with family!! For future adventurers: CLOSE your mouth when going down the sand dunes!!!!

Really lovely setting and...

Really lovely setting and a smooth boat ride. Catering was great. The snorkelling, kayaking and desert dunes trip was great, with lots of fish. The hosts weren't the most hospitable, in particular the guide who got in the water with us snorkeling I asked one of them a question on the barge trip over and he was not happy about it, and every other time I said something to him it seemed it was some sort of inconvenience. My wetsuit hadn't been washed and was full of sand and soaking wet (for some reason they don't dry their wetsuits inside out). When I asked where the toilet was the guide answered me like I was stupid. An amazing day seeing all the sights but their customer service needs to be brought up to scratch.

Fun Filled Island Adventure

One of the best experience we have had in our GC trip. kayaking around the famous Tangalooa Wreks, snorkeling among the marine life, and sandboarding down the massive dunes made for an exciting day. Our friendly guide shared so many stories. Island's natural beauty was incredible.

It was fun to have a resort trip

Sandbergs are exhausting. Snorkeling was so beautiful with so many fish Of course, the oceans are the most transparent.

Excellent day out

Great scenery and fun activities - sandboarding with Josh was a blast - even with a bit of sand in our teeth! And snorkeling with Liam was excellent - tons of fish and a sea turtle and loved seeing the sunken boats and reef. Tom was also really friendly and informative when kayaking. Great lunch, terrific service and learned a bit about the island. Would recommend for a fun day out!

Not so great

Trip should have been canceled. 22 knot winds gusting to 39, whitecaps inside the artificial reef, and a current that capsized kayaks. The 1/2 hour snorkel was not worth the battle. Not much for coral or fish. Also was overbooked. Website says not more than 25 traveling in group and there were at least 35. Coach seats are cramped. Be advised the sandboard is a piece of thin masonite about 1 x 3 foot, smooth on one side and textured on the other. You carry it on a long walk in loose sand uphill for a slide down and then a long uphill again for either another ride and ultimately back to the bus. The bus trip to the sand dune and back is just a ride with too loud (but good) music and no type of tour commentary. Considering the extra $85 AUD per person charge on top of the tour charge, maybe there's something else to do.

Best experience

Amazing experience and the guides were great! My partner lost their phone during the sand dunes and Diego saved the day! The snorkelling and the canoeing was great despite the choppy waters and would recommend.
