Recently voted the number sixth best beach in Australia by Tripadvisor, Mooloolaba Beach is known as one of the most beautiful beaches on the Sunshine Coast.
Flanked on one side by the ocean and the Mooloolah River on the other, Point Cartwright is a stunning beach, located at the base of the headland at the northern end of Kawana Beach. See the iconic Point Cartwright lighthouse and ocean themed mural-painted reservoir.
Alexandra Headland has a relaxed and laid back atmosphere that complements the soothing rolling surf and inviting beaches. Alexandra Headland's main attraction is its magnificent coastal frontage of beach, headland and parks extending for kilometres north and south.
Old Woman Island (or Mudjimba Island) is located 1km off the coast. There are a number of Aboriginal legends abound about the Island. One has it, the Island was the result of an epic battle between two men, Coolum and Ninderry, and a woman called Maroochy. The end result was that Coolum's head was knocked off and ended up in the ocean, creating Mudjimba Island. Mount Coolum, seven kilometers to the north, is now flat topped due to the lack of a head! There are various other legends involving Aboriginal women living on the island until old age, hence the "Old Woman" name.

Thank you Jack Shea!! We had an absolutely amazing whale watching tour with Adventure Rafting! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfectly organized. The entire crew was incredibly friendly, professional, and welcoming. The information and explanations throughout the tour were excellent. Their knowledge about whales was extensive, fascinating, and shared with so much enthusiasm that it made the experience even more special. A special compliment to our captain, who knew exactly where to take us. During our two-hour tour, we spent around an hour and a half watching whales almost continuously. Seeing these magnificent animals so close in their natural habitat was a dream come true. This was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Australia. Outstanding service, excellent guidance, and an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Thank you, Adventure Rafting, for giving us such an incredible day. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Sunshine Coast! 5 stars!
Operators were knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly. They were able to locate a whale relatively quickly, and follow the whale as it moved around, offering several viewing chances for the passengers.
Excellent outing. The crew were friendly and excited. They were informative and really took their time with all the sightings. We got back 30 minutes overtime, but we saw so many whales, the captain didn't want to rush the experience. Loved this. Thanks 😊
The event was nauseatingly awful with rough seas. Unfortunately weather reports are not always reliable. Most everyone got sea sick and two of my party had neck strains because of the severe bouncing around in your seat. I would recommend the skipper look at the ocean and not just rely on the weather in future. If it’s too rough - even when you’re on your way - stop and call it. Passengers will appreciate that. Very hard to see whales in that kind of seas and we didn’t. Just not worth the risk.
If you love a thrill the boat ride out and back is super speedy and if there's a bit of a swell you will get splashed and bumped around a bit! The animals were beautiful to see, the island was fun as well! And the staff were lovely! Informative, kind, funny. If you have a bad back maybe skip it if it's a rough day on the ocean. Seeing the Mooloolaba/Coolum skyline from out at sea was a great and humbling experience. Seeing the mountains was also wonderful!
The staff were amazing with their friendly explanations and smiles. It was great to see the communication between boats for the sighting of whales and we were so lucky to see a mum, calf and escort.
Fantastic small group tour. Our crew Rod & Jake were fabulous, informative & professional. We learnt so much about humpback whales in such a short time. The boat was very comfortable, zippy & viewing was great as group was small. We saw/followed 3 pods during the two hours watching mum, baby & their escort which was fascinating. We were lucky enough to see a breach with our last pod which was incredible. Our first whale watching tour & we were not disappointed. The two hours flew by but was also perfect timing if you don't want to be out for half a day. Highly recommended with a great ethical crew. Thank you
Our two skippers Rod & Hayden were 100% in every way. They did their utmost to make our trip informative, fun and most of all to find some whales for us to marvel at. The boat seats about 20 people and there was a lot of room to stand up and move around while the boat was idling, allowing us to watch the whales migrating south to Antarctica. We learned a lot from both Rod and Hayden about whale behaviour, habits and conservation. They handled the boat beautifully, finding the best places to idle to give the best views, followed by a bit of an adrenaline ride back into harbour. I can highly recommend this trip from start to finish. (possibly not for people who know they will or might get seasick as the boat is very close to the water) .
Amazing experience! Mother and son date! Lots of info on the whales on the way out, and saw a baby calf breach!
