Description

Discover the amazing atmosphere in the legendary red light district Pigalle, the artists's quarter on the hill of Montmartre and visit the overwhelming Basilica Sacré-Cœur. We start with the famous Moulin Rouge. From here, I will bring you up to the hill of Montmartre on the footsteps of impressionist painters like Manet, Renoir or Van Gogh, the great Picasso and writers like Emile Zola. We will visit the Basilica Sacré-Cœur, Paris' biggest church, having a guided tour inside, and we'll enjoy a breathtaking view all over Paris - including the Eiffel Tower - during sunset. I will bring you to small hidden streets with their cobblestones telling many surprising anecdotes. Together we will visit the last still existing windmills on the hill, a vineyard created by artists wine and a completely pink restaurant that became so because of a drunk artist. We end on the famous square Place du Tertre where you can enjoy a drink or a meal in one of the many typical French restaurants.

Moulin Rouge to Montmatre Artists of yesteryear and today

Thoroughly enjoyed our Montmatre Tour with Nikita. It was well researched and covered a lovely historical part of Paris . As we strolled though a variety of interesting side streets and parks he shared interesting and often amusing anecdotes which brought the history of the times and artists to life.

Uphill walking…

We did this activity as a small group, so there were only four of us plus the guide. She did a good job, but was a few minutes late so it was a bit confusing if we were located in the correct place to meet. Interesting tour, lots of great personalized stories to the area, but it was a LOT more walking uphill than I anticipated, even after reading all the fine print. I used a walking stick and often struggled to keep up- just something to remember when touring this area of Paris! Great views though!!

Operator response

Thank you very much for your kind review and for joining our Montmartre tour. We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed the personalized stories, the small-group experience, and of course the beautiful views from the top of Montmartre. We also appreciate your comment about the walking. Montmartre is actually the highest point in Paris, and although we always try to choose routes with the least steep uphill streets and avoid as many stairs as possible, it is unfortunately impossible to completely avoid some climbing in this neighborhood because of its unique geography and historic layout. Thank you as well for your patience regarding the short delay at the meeting point, and we are glad you still had an enjoyable experience overall. We truly appreciate your feedback, and we hope to welcome you again on another tour in Paris!

Recommend Montmartre walking tour

I really enjoyed our tour of the town of Montmartre with my husband and 2 other who were in our small group. Our guide Nikita was a great knowledgeable local who gave us great history and background of the area and how it fit into the overall country. We would walk a bit then stop, and felt the journey pass easily. Thankfully the uphill portion was broken into parts. The trip ended at the top of the hill in front of church. There was no guided interior tour. The line to get into the interior was long and we didn't want to do that. I would recommend you use the toilet before the tour starts and at the top there was a public toilet available. So many cafes and shopping to enjoy on your way down the hill at your leisure.

Montmartre tour

This is a tour and a very busy area of Montmartre. There were 13 people in our group we thought that was at least 3 too many. As a result, it was difficult to hear the tour guide and to follow her on the trip. We found that we backtracked a number of times to see various things on the way up to the Basilica. As a result, it made the challenging climb even more difficult. Not for the faint of heart.

Operator response

Hello and thank you very much for the review. As told in our tour description, we accept groups up to 15 people, but we are more than happy to propose private tours to clients like you who prefer more intimacy. Montmartre is the highest spot in Paris and even if we try to make the path as comfortable as possible, it is still going uphill. There is no way around that. But we figured out a way with the less steps possible and by multiplying the turns the streets we are using are the less steep. For guests who prefer an easy walk on flat ground we propose city walks between the Opera Garnier and Notre Dame as well as a walk from Champs Élysée to Eiffel Tower and on the left bank. We try our best to have a variety of proposals so each of our guests can choose the tour he is the most comfortable with. All the best!
