Itinerary
Founded during the 11th century AC at an isolated hillside below the road to Vourkoti village. It played a significant role to the Greek revolution of 1821 against the Ottomans, having a hidden school teaching the greek language (reading/writting) to many people. The monastery’s printing press printed some of the important scripts that were spread among the country during the efforts of liberating the country. Worth to mention the silver-embroidered holly icon of St.Nicholas, handcrafted by Leontia nun

We had a wonderful time visiting the amazing Panachrantou Monastery with its beautiful views and 800 years of history. Also we explored the Foros Cave and Stone Bridge at Dipotamata. Bill, our guide for this trip, was very helpful and knowledgeable. It is our second trip with Explore Andros and we definitely want to do more trips with the expert guides, George and Bill. Many thanks again, Matthew & Rachel
“We were truly delighted to read your review. It confirms that we are fulfilling our goal: ensuring that every visitor to Andros takes with them the island’s unique qualities and beauties as lasting memories.” Explore Andros team
Such a nice host that took us to several villages and Ayio Pandeleimona and also gave us all the history of the Island took amazing photos we rate this 10/10 verry happy with excellent service highly recommend this
The guide gave an excellent overview of each monastery. He is acquainted with the monks and The abbotts. A scenic ride to each of the 3 spots. The guide gave plenty of time at each site and time to shop in the monastery.
We choose EXPLORE ANDROS for a half day trip to nearby Chora Androu monasteries! A good choice! Mr Fotis picked us up from our hotel at 9.30 with an aircondition car .Mr Fotis is coming from ANDROS he loves the place, he knows everything about the place and everyone. He gave us a lot of information about the history of each monastery but also about tradition, daily life of people, either in the past or today . We visited Agios Nicholaos monastery, where we had a full detailed cover from the guide of the church and also the big monastery of Agia Marina. But the most precious moments were at Agios Panteleimon Monastery. You have to visit the place to feel history. The church was built by Nikiforos Focas , King of Roman empire/Byzantine. We had a beautiful break for a coffee and lunch at Menites Village with the springs and beautiful scenery. Thank you Mr Fotis and George
The monasteries in Andros are very beautiful, special, oases of tranquility and spiritual recovery. We were in other monastic settlements, more famous on the territory of Greece, but the atmosphere of closeness, of friendship with which we were greeted at Panachrandou I did not see anywhere. This island has many interesting things to visit, including on mountain paths in a special landscape, possibilities of entertainment about which nothing is written in many travel guides. We returned this year with great pleasure, and we were guided by Explore Andros. It was the best choice, because we always felt safe, we came across nice people and good professionals.
