Built in 1903 by German rubber baron Waldemar Scholz, the Rio Negro Palace is a stunning example of Belle Époque architecture in downtown Manaus. Originally a private mansion, it became the official seat of the Amazonas government in 1918 and now serves as a cultural center and museum. You can explore elegant rooms filled with period furniture, art exhibits, and historical artifacts that tell the story of the Amazon’s rubber boom. Highlights include the grand staircase, imported iron sculptures, and lush gardens that connect to Jefferson Péres Park. Entry is free, and guided tours offer a deeper dive into the palace’s rich legacy and architectural beauty.

Located in Largo de São Sebastião, in front of the iconic Amazon Theatre in Manaus, this neoclassical monument was inaugurated in 1900 to commemorate the 1866 opening of Amazonian ports to international trade. Designed by Italian artist Domenico de Angelis, it features allegorical sculptures representing the four continents—Asia, Africa, Europe, and America—each symbolized by a ship with a seated child. At the top stands Mercury, the Roman god of commerce, alongside a female figure representing the Amazon. The monument celebrates Manaus's historical role in global trade during the rubber boom era

Nestled along the Rio Negro in Manaus’s historic center, the Adolpho Lisboa Market is a stunning example of Art Nouveau architecture, inaugurated in 1883 during the rubber boom. Designed with iron structures imported from Europe—some attributed to Gustave Eiffel—it offers a vibrant mix of Amazonian culture, flavors, and craftsmanship. Tourists can explore stalls filled with exotic fruits, medicinal herbs, fresh fish, and indigenous crafts, all while soaking in the market’s rich history and lively atmosphere. It’s a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic taste of the Amazon

Meeting of the Waters and much more!

The tour by boat was wonderful despite light rain. Rudolpho our guide has us very interesting about everything worth seeing, whether animals, dwellings, plants and rivers reported. It was great to meet our wishes to visit the market hall in front of the Opera House. In the opera we were shown around and informed great and with great knowledge. A highly recommended excursion!

Thank you very much for your wonderful review! I’m delighted to hear that you enjoyed the boat tour, even with a bit of rain. It was a pleasure guiding you and sharing information about the local wildlife, communities, plants, and rivers. I’m also glad we could include your request to visit the market before the Opera House. It’s great to know you enjoyed the guided visit inside the Opera House as well. Thank you for recommending the tour — it truly means a lot. I hope to welcome you back to Manaus someday for more unforgettable experiences.

Well Known Destination

We took bus to Amazona Theater. They evidently had a party in the area around the theater last evening as they were loading up trucks. The area had a lot of Christmas decorations. The exterior of the building is generally in good shape. We took the tour through the building. It has definitely seen better days. The same may be said for the city as well. There is a replica of the theater on the second floor that is reportedly comprised of 30,000 Legos. This is about the only major building worth visiting in the city.

Great city tour of Manaus!

Our tour guide Rudolfo was really excellent - highly recommend!! (and thank you Rudolfo!) Very knowledgable about Manaus and its history, and a very amiable guide - we had a very pleasant several hours (a half day tour) learning about the city, its history and its landmarks. We especially appreciated his initiative and attentiveness to my dad's mobility issues.

Mixing of the waters and a nice city tour on top of it

Nice tour of the old city, Opera house, meeting of the two rivers and market places within the city. The boat tour of the river and floating community was the highlight of the trip. The river is high right now so it is a good time to see the floating community and treeline.
