Itinerary
Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming place is just 15km away from Moshi Town and is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park. You will be picked up in Moshi/Arusha in the morning, by our English-speaking guide, who will drive you to Materuni Village. Upon arrival, you will register at the village office and your trip can begin. First you will visit the waterfalls, which are around a 40 minute walk away. On the way, your guide will inform you about the culture of the Chagga, village life and explain the surrounding fauna and flora. The views are truly breathtaking, and with some luck you will see the summit of Kilimanjaro. When you reach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall is an inviting place for a refreshing swim so don‘t forget your swim wear! After having enjoyed the scenery, you slowly return with your guide to Materuni village, where you will experience a traditional Chagga lunch. You also will have the opportunity to taste our local banana beer – definitely not to be missed! But that’s not all. Next the coffee experience awaits you. Here you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed. You will also be invited to help with the grinding of the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances - a fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture. Before you say goodbye and return in the afternoon to Moshi or Arusha , you can savour the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest. The departure can also take place from another place

The whole experience was amazing! Godfrey was a great guide. He picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the falls. The hiking trail was muddy as it had been raining. We enjoyed going to the falls and back even though it was a bit of a workout. The coffee demonstration was also nice. Godfrey drove us to the warm springs. We enjoyed the fish pedicure and wading in the warm water. He took many nice pics of us throughout! Wouldn’t recommend him enough!
We really enjoyed the trip. We took the trip with Joel as a driver and combined Chemka with the hike to Materuni waterfall, coffee roasting workshop and dinner at the village. Definitely worth your time! Prices were reasonable
It was a incredible experience in Materuni village. Joel is a great guide, Who teaches everything about the costumes, culture and wild life. The waterfall is beautiful. Coffee tour Goes Behind the amazing taste and the local food is absolutely incredible. Also the hot spring was a big surprise. You can see turttles swimming in the water so clean.. I really recomend this trip.
Our guide Joel was amazing. He picked us up promptly at 7am from where we were staying. We were not staying at a hotel so we just confirmed via WhatsApp that they could pick us up and they were able to do so. Joel is very charismatic and happy to answer all the questions we had. He always made sure we were comfortable and happy throughout the entire day! He also made sure that we got pictures of Mt.Kilimanjaro when it was visible and took great photos of us which was a bonus. I would 100% recommend this tour! For the tour itself, make sure to bring swim attire if you’d like to swim. We went when it was dry and sunny out and did not need hiking boots, but sturdy shoes with good tread is recommended. Bring cash for tips or souvenirs. Apart from that there’s not much else to share as Joel basically takes care of you the entire time and will go out of his way to ensure you have a great time :)
We spent a perfect day with Joel. He patiently answered all our questions. He not only led us to the waterfall, but explained many other things and even showed us chameleons. At the end of the day Joel was our friend. We recommend the tour to everyone.
Great experience! With a couple of hours drive from Arusha we reached Materuni, a small village on the slopes of Kilimanjaro of disarming peace. With about half an hour of jungle walking at 1400 meters above sea level, we reached the beautiful 90-meter high waterfalls. Stunning panorama! Back in the village, we ate local dishes and delicious fruit at "Mom's" house. After contributing to its different stages of preparation from plant to cup, we could enjoy a great 100% Arabica coffee. Joel is a fantastic guide, patient and kind. He answered all our questions and satisfied our curiosity always with a smile. Available to all our requests (also had wifi box!), it was excellent company for the duration of the experience. Thank you Joel!
Great day trip from Arusha. The waterfall is beautiful and we learned about the process of brewing coffee and made our own brew. A delicious local lunch was provided then we made our way to the hot springs with many people swimming and relaxing. Our guide Joel was energetic and positive and helped to make this a great day. Would recommend!
We really enjoyed our trip with Joel to the waterfalls and hot spring. The waterfalls were almost 100 meters high and very impressive. Joel was super sweet and took many beautiful pictures of us. He has a good understanding of English and shared some fun facts with us during our trip. Also the hot springs (which are actually refreshing and not hot) were really beautiful. Thank you for the wonderful day!
So let me start by saying this company has exceeded m expectations. Their communication skills is second to none, they kept us informed from start to finish. Now let me get to our day trip to Lake Materuni and the hot spring , Joel our guide was very prompt in picking us up from our hotel. His consumer service went above and beyond . As soon as we got in the car we were provided with the WiFi so that we could keep in contact with our loved ones. Refreshment was also provided . When we got to the tour, he was very patient with us. He even stayed behind with one of our friends until she was rescued by the TUK TUK 😉 At one point he was our personal photographer, taking pics from all angles (who doesn’t like this 😂) . We then ate lunch together before doing the coffee tour and throughout the entire time he was patient and I could see that his actions were all genuine. In the evening we made our way to the hot spring and in spite of receiving African massage, he took his time navigating the rough roads. Again at the springs he was our photographer and didn’t rush us at all. We ended the night by getting chicken barbecue and chapati. 10/10 would recommend this company and remember to ask for Joel by name .
We did our tour with Joel he was amazing very caring took his time to explain everything that we needed assisted us up and down the falls most of all he was a great photographer. For the coffee experience we sang together we even exchange our Jamaican folk song for coffee He constantly checked to ensure that we were satisfied both with the drive and the tour most importantly also we had Wi-Fi he ensure that we had Wi-Fi service throughout the whole entire trip I will definitely recommend Joel for any tours that you need with this company.
