Enjoy a scenic 40-minute guided walk to the spectacular 80-meter Materuni Waterfall, passing coffee and banana plantations, small streams, and the traditional irrigation channels used by local farmers. After the hike, visit a local coffee farm to experience the traditional coffee-making process. Learn how coffee is grown, harvested, roasted, and ground by hand before enjoying a freshly brewed cup of organic Arabica coffee. Throughout the tour, you'll also gain insight into the culture, traditions, and daily life of the Chagga people, making this a perfect combination of nature and authentic cultural experiences.
Materuni Coffee Tour is an authentic cultural experience in the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, where you will discover the traditional coffee-making process practiced by the Chagga people for generations. Pick ripe coffee cherries (seasonal), remove the outer pulp, roast the beans over an open fire, grind them by hand using traditional wooden mortars while joining in lively Chagga songs and dances, and finally brew and enjoy a fresh cup of organic Arabica coffee that you helped prepare.

Just half an hour drive / climb by jeep. Hike is doable. And the falls are very worthwhile, water is cold. Coffee tour is fun, I don’t like “too” touristy myself. But the people who do make it worthwhile with their enthusiasm!

Opted for this airport transfer for both arrival and departure, and it exceeded expectations. Fadhili and his drivers were consistently friendly, on time, and the vehicles were impeccably clean.
