Matacanes : Canyoning + Hiking + Water Jumps + Rappel + Caves

Description
The water of Matacanes Canyon has been flowing for thousands of years and thus creating mystical shapes in its bed. The crystal clear waters of the river are suitable for swimming and offer a true experience of untouched nature with its cliffs up to 12 meters high, waterfalls, natural pools, subterranean tunnels and a 30 meters unique waterfall. The guide will give you a life-jacket, a helmet, neoprene wetsuit, harness, and the expedition is ready to set off. The sound of the river becomes louder as you descend into the canyon, for almost 12 kilometers you will be surrounded by beautiful landscapes and nature. Walking through the river and the rapids, going through the subterranean tunnels and caves, swimming in natural pools, going around waterfalls and lakes - all of this is canyoning!

I highly recommend the tour with Gaia Xtreme, I had an incredible time, I had a lot of fun. I did the Matacanes tour, the landscapes are beautiful, the water is very fresh. The guides were attentive at all times, they offered us a snack halfway through. Everything was very good, thank you very much, I hope to return soon 🪲🍃
Excellent attention from the guides, very good organization
One of the most unique experiences, an excursion through a canyon a natural spring canyon that leads to cliff jumping, waterfall rappels, and swimming through crystal blue subterranean caves. Bring lots of snacks and water. Guides were super knowledgeable and always felt safe.
Pffffff. I would like to start with this: The guide Jaime (Jimmy) is the best, he always assisted us and helped us throughout the journey, a great and very pleasant person; if you have the opportunity to go with him, you will not regret it. Now yes, a very good tour, highly recommended; however, 22 km (yes, it is 22 real km) are not easy, especially if you decide to do it in legendary mode. The views are very cool, very beautiful, the river is pleasant, the caves, oh man, the underground passages are quite intense, (they are short and you can always see the light at the end, it is not 100% dark), 2 rappels, it looks difficult but it is not that much, however, I was well equipped XD and there are thousands of jumps of all sizes, I did not jump the 12 but I switched it for the 8 and of course, you meet excellent people and great friends, greetings to all of them.
Excellent service, I went with my partner and the truth is that we had a great time, it is necessary from time to time to engage in activities like these that take you out of the routine.
The experience overall is worth the trip. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The guides are extremely helpful and kind during the hike itself and make you feel safe. However before and after you’re on your own. Firstly, they switched our dates 2 days before we were supposed to go on the hike which we booked months prior and we were going to a soccer game the night before so we got 3 hours of sleep. They say there’s springs at the bottom so you don’t need to bring water but please do because there’s one chance to get a sip of water and it’s a 12 mile hike. Just don’t leave any trash/plastic bottles there. They also were 30 minutes late for pickup at 4:15 am, and the ride back has no ac, which they stopped multiple times for food/drinks for themselves leaving us in the far back of a hot van. It’s a once in a lifetime unforgettable experience, but it’s good to know what you’re in for. - bring water and snacks in a small backpack that can get wet -know it’s a long (2.5-3 hours for us) ride there with lots of bumps and turns (bring meds if you get carsick) -bring gloves and a dry change of clothes
A trip to Matacanes Canyon with Gaia Extreme Tours is a must-visit for anyone seeking adventure in Monterrey, N.L. The natural beauty is unmatched. The guides are very friendly. Some of the experiences might test your limits, but it’s completely worth it!
A challenging yet beautiful experience with caves, waterfalls, and stunning landscapes. The guides are super friendly and patient at the start and throughout the entire journey. They explained everything in detail to avoid injury and enjoy Matacanes to the fullest. My nieces came from Houston for this tour and were delighted. We definitely highly recommend it.
Matacanes was the best; the guides are amazing, and the accommodations are rated 10/10.
It was a very good tour; the jumps and views from the hikes were incredible. The guides were super attentive to everything, even ensuring that our footwear was in good condition. They took care of everyone at all times; if someone was lagging behind, they would make the group wait and send them to the front to maintain the same pace. However, it does require very good physical condition since swimming so much can be strenuous, but everything was great, I would do it again!
