Brilliant place - and not just for football fans!

Love this place. Super friendly & knowledgeable staff. Always loads to do for kids and grown-ups and they do a great job at keeping exhibits bang up to date. You don't need to be a huge football fan to enjoy it - anyone with an interest in British social history would find something of interest. Nice cafe too!

Afternoon visit to the National Football Museum

My wife and I pre-booked our visit to the the National Football Museum, safe to say when we got there we were not disappointed. The staff were friendly, attentive and gave us newbies clear instructions. We were asked to wait 30 mins for our tour, got the escalator to the first floor, took a few photo's and had a mooch around before making our way to start the tour. Sadly I never got our guides name but what a fountain of knowledge he was, some good humour thrown in and we were all like mates on an afternoon out. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, interactions and learning the history and he carried on well past an hour, we didn't mind at all, the memorabilia they have is next level. We were there for about 3 hours and would definitely recommend this is great value for money.

Limited Museum

Very limited football displays. Lots of activities for youth but not really a museum. Best for ages 10-16.

Good venue great staff 👍

Interesting for all, but football enthusiasts will live it. Must mention the Café , very nice food and very considerate staff, one of the student helped me out with some pain killers due to an arthritis spasm. Good kind people.

Excellent tour/ tour guide

Me and my dad did the guided tour at 10.30 on April 19th 2026, I didn’t get our tour guides name but he was absolutely brilliant, his level of detail, brilliant story telling and tour guiding skills were second to none, paired with a lovely sense of humour and some sentimental personal stories about tickets etc. I would highly reccomend the guided tour to anyone who attends TNFM as it was a brilliant experience made even better by a great tour guide.

Could be improved

I had high expectations—I thought I would see more historical facts and key milestones in the history of football. I believe the experience could be improved, especially in how the historical events are presented and narrated.

Good trip, but awful tour guide

So it was a good trip All in All, we were impressed by the various different games and activities. It was a good trip for budding footballers and family members. The café was not too badly priced and there were a lot of options for different dietary requirements. However, the gift shop was severely overpriced, but I guess that was expected. There were some really cool artefacts and a lot of information and apparently the exhibition changes every six months. Also, if you’re a UK citizen, you can come back for free within a year. Bonus points if you’re a resident of Manchester, you can enter for free. We spent around four hours at the venue and it was great for families and friends. Family friendly vibes but cool enough for teenagers and it wasn’t too crowded when we went. However, there were a few drawbacks. There is an optional tour that is included in the cost, although you’re allowed to do it independently there is an option of having a tour guide. Unfortunately, after completing the tour with a tour guide, we wished we had done it independently. The tour guide gave us no option but to be along with her group however we were the only people in her group. We clearly saw why afterwards. 🤦‍♀️ She decided to commence on the tour and throughout the duration of the tour, she proceeded to make passive racist and prejudiced comments towards us as we are visibly religious. She was extremely excluding to our older daughter and did not bother with her during the three hour tour, she treated her as part of the brick wall. The tour guide also called the father of the family dad and daddy and also just kept rambling on about one Team just because somebody had mentioned. She seemed to focus on certain members on the household rather than others. She skipped a lot of the important parts of the tour and then show us just a few trophy thieves and she spent hours and hours going around them and talking about them. The tour guide also spoke to us in a very condescending and childish voice even though the youngest member our party is 13, not 4. She also made not very humorous jokes about bringing the Manchester United mascot to our house and she proceeded to claim she knew which town we lived in. The tour guide also did not get the hint when we were visibly very very bored. She just carried on going round and around and our mother had to request to pause the tour because we were running out of time and the venue going to close. She proceeded to say that the tour was going to be 5 more minutes it wasn’t it was much much longer. The tour guide also did not stop talking when there was a security announcement. Instead she started to yell over the security announcement, which is probably not the best practice of health and safety. When we then practically forced her to end the tour she carried on following us around the venue and continued to acccopamny us sporadically. Unfortunately a very good visit ruined by a very bad tour guide. Hope to return in the future when a specific tour guide has hopefully left.
