In this brief but fascinating stop, our guide will take us hand in hand through the threads of history, connecting the Phoenician and Roman civilizations in their influence over Malaga. We will discover how the Phoenicians, pioneers in trade and navigation, laid the foundations for what would later be the splendor of the Roman Empire. As we observe the vestiges of both civilizations, our companion will reveal how these cultures not only shared the same territory, but also left an indelible mark on the development of the city. From the maritime legacy of the Phoenicians to the monumental architecture and urban innovations of the Romans, every step of Malaga is a profound connection between these two empires. As we go through the story, we will understand how Malaga, enriched by the mixture of these powerful civilizations, became a gem of the Mediterranean. A bridge between two worlds that shaped its history and culture!
At this stop, we will enter one of Malaga’s most impressive treasures: the Roman Theatre. Here, we will discover how the influence of Roman civilization left a deep mark on the city, transforming it into an important cultural and commercial center of the Mediterranean. Our guide will tell us how this theater, built in the 1st century B.C., was a symbol of Roman power and sophistication, serving as the epicenter of social and cultural life at the time. But the most exciting is yet to come. We’ll put our virtual reality glasses back on and suddenly we’ll be standing in the bustle of ancient Malaga. We will see the Roman theater in all its glory, with its original structure and its seats full of spectators, feeling the emotion of the public before the shows and celebrations. A unique experience that will take us back to the past, allowing us to relive the glorious moment when this monument was first presented to the city!
At the gates of the majestic fortress-Palace de la Alcazaba, we will prepare for one of the most decisive and spectacular moments in Malaga’s history: the conquest of the city by the Catholic Monarchs. Thanks to the advanced virtual reality devices, we will not only witness this milestone, but we will live it in the first person, immersed in the heart of this dramatic historical chapter. In the blink of an eye, we will be between the two imposing armies, feeling the tension that was being breathed in the atmosphere as the troops waited for the outcome of a months-long siege. We will relive one of the most symbolic moments of the Reconquest. We will witness the historic surrender of the city, when the keys of Malaga were handed over to the Catholic Monarchs, marking the end of the Nasrid resistance. We will be there, amid the cheers and solemn silence that accompanied this monumental turn in history.
As we arrive at the most modern time of Malaga, we will prepare for a unique encounter with one of the greatest geniuses of art: Pablo Picasso. With our virtual reality glasses, we will immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of the painter, who will talk to us, in the first person, about his life and his extraordinary work. This was a first use of VR for us and it was incredible; it takes an historical tour of this city to the next level. Our guide Lertau was very enthusiastic, helpful and informed, as was his real archaeological assistant. The VR really enhances your ability to understand the history of Malaga and you get to meet Picasso and Christopher Columbus (among others). Can’t recommend this tour highly enough!
We took our fifth and sixth graders on the tour and loved the experience. They adapted to some of the students being Italian (they were in an Erasmus mobility) and each could hear the explanations and videos in their language, which were very interesting and of very good quality. The children were very surprised by the immersion in the story. The monitors, Fernando, Nivo and Carlos were wonderful. Fully recommended. We'll repeat for sure.
I really enjoyed this even more than most tours. Whenever I’m somewhere historical, I always wonder what it was really like to be there and this brought it to life! Our guide Pablo was so nice and so informative. At the end, he even gave great advice on where to have a drink. I’d recommend this to anyone who wants to get a taste of all the best places to hit while in Malaga and to know where to go back and focus. A+++ and wish they had these in the cities I’ve visited!
This was beyond my expectation. Our guy Pablo was super sweet really knowledgeable and give great tips on where to eat and drink afterwards. I’ve been on a lot of tours, but the ability to actually see something the way it was back in the day was something extra special and something I’ve always wanted to do. I absolutely recommend!
