The largest royal palace in Western Europe is a must-visit for all.Home to the Kings of Spain from Charles III to Alfonso XIII, Madrid's Royal Palace takes us on a journey through the history of Spain. Though it is no longer the royal family's home, it continues to be their official residence.

This imposing church and the Royal Palace nearby form one of Madrid’s most popular tourist attractions.Madrid's cathedral, which stands in Hapsburg Madrid, has a short but tortuous history. The first plans for the church were drawn up in 1879 by Francisco de Cubas, who wanted to create a pantheon for the late Queen Maria de la Mercedes. The foundation stone was laid in 1883, but when Pope Leo XIII granted a bull in 1885 for the creation of the Madrid-Alcalá bishopric, the plans for the church were changed to become plans for a cathedral.

The Prado Museum, which is commemorating its 200th anniversary this year, is the crown jewel of one of the city’s most popular tourist itineraries: the Paseo del Arte, where you'll also find the Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofía museums. The Prado's walls are lined with masterpieces from the Spanish, Italian and Flemish schools, including Velázquez’ Las Meninas and Goya’s Third of May, 1808. Its collection comprises 8,600 paintings and over 700 sculptures, so we recommend deciding what you want to see before stepping into the museum. If you are short on time, the Prado's website suggests three itineraries, lasting 1, 2 and 3 hours and covering the museum's most important masterpieces.

El Retiro Park is the real star of this neighbourhood, bordered by Calle de Alcalá and Calle O’Donnell to the north, Doctor Esquerdo to the east, Avenida del Mediterráneo and Paseo de Reina Cristina to the south, and Calle de Alfonso XII to the west. The park was developed under the Catholic Monarchs, in the early sixteenth century, but the neighbourhood itself is much younger. With an increasingly larger population in the late nineteenth century, the city expanded. The layout of Retiro is similar to that of neighbouring Barrio de Salamanca, featuring perpendicular streets with wide pavements, some of them embellished as attractive boulevards, like Ibiza or Alcalde Sainz de Baranda. It’s basically a residential area but, being so close to the centre of Madrid, it’s borrowed some of its business and shopping character. Visitors coming to Madrid can’t miss El Retiro Park and its surroundings, filled with cultural attractions, restaurants and shops. Beautiful Morning Touring Madrid By E-Bike

Fabulous morning with lovely company. Thank you Ronaldo for a very informative tour of Madrid. Really enjoyed the bikes and especially the E-Bikes for the hills! Highly recommend the tour and our tour guide - he was especially lovely. PS definitely recommend the E-Bikes for a more relaxed approach to the tour and bring some water!

Absolutely recommendable

We had a great 3 hour tour of a pre-Christmas Madrid. Guide, Michael guided us perfectly through the streets of the city center and not only visited many sights on great trails. He told us a whole host of insider tips, both for restaurants and great sky bars. Super also the tips on the museums and how to get there best. The tour is really unreservedly recommended. A tip: if you are not so good on the bike, treat yourself to an e-bike. There are a whole series of slopes.

Besser spät als nie;) Vielen Dank für die tolle Bewertung!

Pleasant pedalling

Got a nice and interesting tour, and hit places I wouldn't otherwise go. Small minus: our guide pedaled firmly between all stops, and on arrival he was already telling before the whole group arrived. Too bad if you pay for a guide. Furthermore, highly recommended.

Magic, compassion, Madrid

This is a MUST-DO experience. It's a great way to get an overview of the city upon arrival which will allow you to pinpoint what's to see. Álvaro was the absolute sweetest in accomodations and catering to our groups interests. He was knowledgeable, playful, and passionate about what he does. Plus all his recommendations for restaurants and cafes have been perfect. I recommend this company enough!!!

Operator response

Wow, that sounds great, thank you!

Top tour

Guide Cris is really a winner. He knows the city inside out and had lots of fun facts and addresses. Tells very passionately so you pick up a lot of it. Madrid has pleasantly surprised us and this is partly thanks to Trixi Bikes

Guided bike tour in German

We had a very informative tour, the guide was very well informed and was able to explain historical background to many sights. We also received good tips from him, which we implemented in the following days. It was also very nice that he repeatedly offered to take photos of us for groups.

Bike tour with great guide!

Lovely e-bike tour around Madrid with Juan Felipe as our excellent guide. And boy, did he guide. He knows so much about the city. Our booked group tour turned out to be a private one as there were no others that day. This meant that JF completely adjusted the tour to our likings. He combined both city and the outskirts of the city which was lovely as it was a hot day. Upon entering the city center again he took us to a very nice terrace for a nice drink with some great tapas. It was a fun and entertaining bike ride and I got to see parts of Madrid I hadn't seen before on earlier visits. Muchas gracias JF!
