Description

For many visitors to Peru and even South America, a visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu is the long-anticipated highpoint of their trip. In a spectacular location, it’s the best-known archaeological site on the continent. This awe-inspiring ancient city was never revealed to the conquering Spaniards and was virtually forgotten until the early part of the 20th century.

Itinerary

Admission included300 min

At 3.55am hotel pick-ups will commence, so be up early and ready to go! You’ll be driven to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where you’ll catch the 6.40am train, arriving into Aguas Calientes at around 8.00am. On arrival, your guide will meet you at the train station in Aguas Calientes to take you to the bus, up to Machu Picchu. The bus ride is about 30 minutes. You should arrive to Machu Picchu at around 8.45am, and enter the site. During a tour through this magnificent place, your bilingual guide will explain all about the historic site of Machu Picchu, and you’ll visit all the major places within the lost city. The guided tour will take around 2.5 to 3 hours. Afterwards, you'll have free time to wander around and admire this awe-inspiring place on your own. It’s possible to exit the site to eat a snack at the café, and then re-enter. Your ticket is valid for the entire day. Optional: You can climb the mountain of Huayna Picchu (tickets need to be bought at the time of your Machu Picchu purchase), which is a 1.5 to 2-hour roundtrip. This trip is without a guide. The entrance time is 10.00-11.00am, so if you choose to take this tour, your guided tour will be quicker in order to finish in time to enter Huayna Picchu. After, you’ll descend to Aguas Calientes, the town named for its hot springs. You can get there by bus: it’s a 30-minute trip, and buses leave every 5 minutes. Then you’ll return by train to Cusco. You can choose the 4.12pm train to return directly to Cusco, or the 7.00pm train to return to Ollantaytambo - the train ride is about 1 hour and 40 minutes. A mini-bus will be waiting in Ollantaytambo to take you to Cusco (approx. 90 min).

Endless journey

Try to find a taxi to get to the station and to come back you will save at least 3 hours because in the morning the bus goes around the hotels and the same for the return

Fascinating tour with breathtaking landscapes. Very attentive staff. Dining places need to improve.

Courteous people but precarious structure. Breathtaking landscapes along the way. Long distance but worth seeing. I highly recommend it.

This was worth every dollars!

Heidi did an excellent job coordinating our last minute plan to Machu Picchu. She picked us from the train station and sent us our way to Machu Picchu with clear instructions and accommodations . She couldn’t buy entrance tickets due to local protesting but her tour guide was able to help us get tickets. Ronals (aka Ronaldo) was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable of the Machu Picchu history! Also, he was a great professional photographer (for free!) Follow his Instagram @samanezronal NO worries or stress with Heidi! She has everything figured out!

One of the best trips of my life

As soon as we contacted Heidi, she carefully planned our three day Cusco trip. She’s a pro and knew exactly what we were looking for. A half day city tour where we toured the historic city of Cusco and it’s nearby archeological sites. A trip through the Sacred Valley where we made various stops through its picturesque towns and ancient sites. And an overnight stay in Ollantaytambo before departing via train the next morning for our visit to the incredible archeological site of Machu Picchu. The perfect hotels and wonderful tour guides made it a trip to remember. After a difficult year for all of us, Heidi made us feel welcomed to Cusco and the region and made sure our trip was safe and organized. Though some restrictions are still in place because of the ongoing pandemic, all of the trip is outdoors and did not interfere with our stay. We couldn’t have asked for a better trip and we highly recommend Heidi Tours to all those interested. ¡Muchísimas gracias, Heidi!

Amazing experience!

My wife and I visited Machu Picchu and Rainbow mountain through Heidy in Nov 2019. She and her team helped us by giving us timely updates and clear understanding of the overall process. We also appreciated their kindness in staying up late and guiding us safely to our hotel in Cusco even though we returned late from Ollantaytambo. We’d definitely recommend Heidy tours for your Cusco based day trips to Machu Picchu and Rajnbow mountain.
