Lyon Wine Tasting: Small-Groups with a Professional Sommelier

Description
❄️ We have air conditioning! ❄️ Lyon is surrounded by three of France's greatest wine regions, but most tastings don't reflect that. Our comparative tastings always do. Every session is led by a professional sommelier with years of industry experience, in a private historic loft with a maximum of 10 guests. The format is a shared table, not a guided tour, which means the conversation is shaped by the people in the room. The wines rotate, but they are always sourced from small artisanal producers across Beaujolais, Burgundy, and the Northern Rhône.

We had the best afternoon tasting 5 wines from regions around Lyon with a local sommelier. We started with a sparkling wine and got to know the others in our group. Then we moved to the table for a blind tasting of 2 whites and 2 reds and enjoyed a charcuterie board with local meats and cheeses. Our family is gluten intolerant and they even had gluten free bread for us. It was a great way to experience more French wines from areas we will not have time to visit. Also fun to meet fellow travelers and interact in a social setting. Highly recommend!
Traveling with my husband and a friend to Lyon, I found Caroline via TripAdvisor. Background for this review. We are not wine experts but also not novices. We really enjoy learning about wine, not just drinking it. We had a special private tasting booked by a friend in the industry in Burgundy but we also wanted to have a tasting that focused on other regions in the Rhone. Not having to get back in a car was a bonus. This experience was perfect in every way. Tasted 5 amazing wines with a fabulous charcuterie platter in a great setting. What really made it special was Caroline's knowledge and warmth. Fine wine should be accompanied by excellent conversation and it was. We also learned a lot and the tasting was easy to plan. I can't recommend Caroline highly enough. Ten stars.
Nicely done presentation and blind tasting of four French wines. Three regional cheeses, cured meats, olives and bread were presented as well.
Very informative and friendly, wine tasting. A very good choice of wines to taste. A tasty charcuterie board .
The space for the tasting is very cute, clean and welcoming. Directions to get to the building were clear. They welcome you with cremant, however, this is considered the burgundy that you get to taste which was REALLY disappointing. You do a blind tasting of 2 whites and 2 reds. Considering this was a wine tasting of the region, I was expecting more of a comparative tasting with more education. We have done wine tastings in other regions of France and this one definitely fell flat, not to mention the price tag on the experience did not deliver to expectations. I will say the charcuterie board was excellent!
Hi Justine, we advertise 5 wines, including Burgundy, Beaujolais, and the Rhône, which is exactly what you received. I am so confused that you were dissatisfied by the wines, which are awesome fine wines from artisan producers! Every menu has a Burgundy in the lineup alongside the crémant to start, so every single tasting, you are actually getting two Burgundies. Perhaps you were not paying attention, as it’s clear you were also distracted while booking, since you didn’t realize that the tasting included 5 wines, which is what you received. It is literally a comparative regional tasting! It’s always disheartening to see how little respect people have for small businesses, to give us 2/5 stars because your expectations were out of alignment with what we clearly offer, and because you weren’t paying attention to the wines you were served. Shame.
A very enjoyable activity. A local wine education while drinking wine - brilliant. The setting was in a lovely apartment and very relaxing. Our Sommelier was outstanding with her knowledge and humor. A definite must.
This is one of the best wine tastings we have ever done. Caroline’s knowledge of French wine is truly amazing and she selected unique wines that we would never get to taste without doing this tasting. Caroline is very easy to get along with and she made us feel very welcome. She also gave a an excellent suggestion for an amazing lunch which we also loved. This is a MUST do tasting for people interested in wine.
My husband and I went to this tasting and for us to have basically zero knowledge of wine (we are typically beer drinkers) we felt that we learned so much about the taste, smell, and how to understand labeling/classification wines. It’s truly is amazing how the geographical location, soil, temperature (and more) has to all be considered when labeling wines. It was just so much information that really makes me appreciate wine more than I did before. I’m eager to learn more!!! That just means I have to come back to France and drink more wine and experience it again! ☺️ Also I’m terrible with names, but we took the Lyon Wine tasting on May 9th, and I absolutely loved our teacher/instructor. She spoke English very well but also helped with French pronunciation of the wine regions, wines, etc.. loved this as well. My husband and I are from the south east in the USA… and have a thick southern accent, so learning some of the terminology in French, helped a lot, although we would probably still butcher the names of the wine regions and the wines created in each… Great job!!! And I would do I all over again
We enjoyed our wine tasting experience with Madeline. The setting was a former silk weaver’s workshop, now a cozy apartment. Madeline is very personable and very knowledgeable about wine. Our small, lively group of 6 tasted wines from Beaujolais, Burgundy and the Northern Rhone, starting with a nice Cremant de Bourgogne. The tastings were paired with a lovely charcuterie board. This was an informative, fun and enjoyable pre-dinner experience.
Paul was an amazing guide, he knew the city so well, cared for everyone very well. ensuring those that were late caught up with us, without delaying the others, watched for traffic flow and people to ensure we were not interfering with either. His voice projected so well and his English is flawless. He is a nice man and gave me one of the best walking tours of a city I have ever enjoyed.
Hello! I love this 5 star review but this is not our tour. We are also awesome though.
