We had excellent experience with Matthew, he had very good English as well as knowledge in culinary, which made the experience especially enjoyable. This experience is something out of ordinary. We had visit to snake farm and after dinner with ca 10 different dishes from snake.
Was very interesting. Great guide - spoke near perfect English. Has vast knowledge of Hanoi and also on the snakes.
Our guide looked after us very well on our trip to Le Mat. He provided an excellent unique experience that our family loved. We got up close to some snakes and then had an unforgettable meal. Highly recommended.
Chung was a wonderful tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the local area and shared many stories with us about growing up as a child in the area. The snake farm was exciting to see, especially when the snake farmer took out the Cobra from its home. We've never been that close to a free Cobra. Getting the opportunity to hold a Ptyas Mucosa snake was so fun. The snake was so soft and smooth. We had a wonderful time at the beautiful snake restaurant. So many different dishes were made from one snake. We even tried blood wine made with the heart of the snake and gallbladder wine made with the gallbladder. Both were mixed with MEN VODKA. Chung explained each of the snake courses with us and how to eat each of them. Chung walked us around Le Mat to the different local temples and to a community house. All were so beautiful and peaceful. This Le Mat Snake Village Tour was a highlight of our Hanoi Vietnam stay. Chung kept it exciting and fun for us throughout the trip. We highly recommend this tour and Chung as our tour guide.
Amazing experience. Got to learn a bit about local cobra and snake culture and see some live snakes as well as snake handlers. The meal consisted of like 10 different dishes, all with snake and all unique and well thought out and executed. The whole tour was very different than old town Hanoi, so would definitely recommend if you have some time while in town.
Something different from cobras swirling on the ground a metre in front of you to drinking sake hearts in rice wine - would definitely recommend as you won’t do this at home! The farmer was friendly and the guide informative - very safe experience and great food too!
Recommended. We have had snake many times before but only in soup and liked it. Being foodies, we needed to experience the full deal, 7 courses + 2 drinks (gall bladder emptied into rice wine. a shooter of blood and rice wine with the snake heart). Also not for the faint of heart as they showed you how they dispensed the blood into the rice wine, removed the heart, and removed the gallbladder. Snake is NOT like chicken. it has a mildly sweet taste and the texture is a little rubbery. They use many parts from the skin to even the bones, creating many tastes and textures. We truly enjoyed this unique experience. The restaurant was not a tourist trap but a local place. There were only locals there. We had our won table for 2. There was too much food for us so we had our guide Long join us for dinner. He also took the leftovers home to his family. Great, no wastage. After the meal, we walked to the snake farm. It was quite interesting as we got to see where the snakes were raised and other wild game. The restaurant also had other wild game on its menu so this where the fresh meat came from. We sampled some homemade cobra wine and some tea. Had a chat with the farmer/game keeper The hotel pick up is really convenient. As a bonus, it was rush hour and the taxi took too long to show up so we got onto scooters instead. I was on a "grab" scooter (like Uber) and my wife rode with Long. The ride was an adrenaline experience in itself. Very exciting like a real life video game of survival through crazy traffic. However, it was quite safe as they are awesome drivers, NO ROAD RAGE. Overall, we really enjoyed the whole experience and would recommend it to foodies. It's expensive but we have no regrets spending the money however we would not need to do it again. Bon appetite!
