Cruise was nice but the staff only spoke in Vietnamese. Huge language barrier

Ha Long Bay was absolutely stunning and we had an amazing experience in the rooms as well. Our agent Lana was very helpful and kind. We only faced one major issue with the cruise is the language. We were in an all Vietnamese cruise ship (Sky Cruise) and the guide, the staff everyone spoke in just Vietnamese. Even the safety instructions were spoken in Vietnamese by the guide and he did not know English. Only one staff in the restaurant spoke in English which was helpful at the restaurant. But we couldn’t get any instructions translated. Even the room announcements were in Vietnamese. So that way we definitely felt like outsiders and were constantly confused of what’s happening next. We were not aware of any activities and just followed what the group of people were doing on the ship. Because of the phone networks not working most of the time, we couldn’t even use the translation app to communicate. This made it very difficult to enjoy the full experience. We were a family of 4 and the only foreigners on that ship. If the staff and guide could speak in English then I’m sure this would have been a better experience or if we were given different cruise company by the agent would have been helpful. So make sure to ask your agent to have an English speaking team. We were offered this cruise by our agent so we did not think to ask her then but it’s definitely necessary. Over all I think the experience was good and we would definitely come back to Ha Long Bay Again but with a different cruise company for sure.

Excellent trip on Halong bay

We were booked on this trip as part of our tour around Vietnam. We were unsure of what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. We arrived and had a welcome drink while we waited to be taken by boat to the larger boat. Once we got on board we were welcomed on board with a drink and given our room keys. The cabins were surprisingly spacious and first class! We then had lunch the cruise was very quiet serene and sedate very relaxing. We were able to take part in kayak trip and book massage or treatment as extra. There was also a cookery demonstration to make spring rolls and everyone had a go they were delicious. We had dinner on board and and spent one night on board. The following morning we were taken on smaller boat to sail around the water village which some of the local villagers rowed us around to see how they lived which was amazing to see. We got back onto the cruise boat and had brunch while we cruised back to the port. The food service and everything about the trip was excellent. Well worth doing highly recommend it.
