Like friends being travelling together

We booked the tour to La Rioja wine yeards with my friend as we were plannig it for over a year. Because of that, we wanted it to be something special. And it really was. The trip should have been for 8 pax in the mini van, but we were just 2 of us, me and my friend. Despite of that, our guide Eider (a real basque) guided us with so much of a talent, local knowledge, perfect timing and good humour that we really enjoyed the tour and we felt kind of travelling between us three friends. She even searched the answers to our bizar questions like names of the plants etc. AND gave us some good recommendations of the best cheece cakes in San Sebastian AND even a recipe of making one! HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE!

Sipping our way through Rioja

We had a very informative trip with Michael to see three wineries in Rioja. Really fun and unique wineries to visit that we would likely not be able to see on our own. Michael also made some stops along the way so we could experience and see some charming towns and sights in Rioja. In summary, good wineries, good wines and great experience.

Good but not great.

We paid £212 per person for this trip on the basis of previous reviews. Unfortunately it didn't live up to our expectations. We found both wineries visited to be very good. They were professional outfits and provided a good history of wine making in the region which we greatly enjoyed. Our guide was available to answer questions and was friendly. However there didn't appear to be much of a structure to the day- or at least not one that we were informed of and it all felt a bit muddled. I'm afraid we couldn't recommend it.

Great experience but questionable planning by tour operator

Really enjoyed the experience with our tour guide Adur and fellow tour member. We toured and tasted wines at two vineyards. One was a medium sized vineyard and the other more of a boutique vineyards. Our host at the smaller vineyard had obvious passion for her work and a wonderful way of describing the wines and the growing process of the grapes. My only complaint would be that we were staying in Laguardia and the tour operator, Local Experts, arranged for our pickup in Logrono. This meant we had to drive 20 minutes to Logrono, finding a parking spot (not easy), walk to the spot the taxi was to pickup up and drive back to Laguardia after the tour (after drinking wine all afternoon). In addition, our taxi from Logrono drove us within 2 minutes of Laguardia on our way to the first vineyard and the tour actually ended in Laguardia. If we could have been picked up by the taxi outside the walls of Laguardia this would have been so much easier and safer.

Three amigas explore Rioja wineries

The tour was great! Being able to visit family owned wineries and learn more about the Rioja history was a great experience. Not to mention the wines themselves were incredibly delicious. Our tour guide, Eider, was also amazing. She was fun, friendly, and knowledgeable of the area. She shared some history of the area that she herself had learned and took us to the perfect lunch spot to end the tour. She ordered the items from the menu for us and everything was incredibly good. She did such a great job and helped us get some great pictures in the process! If you’re ever in the area, check out Local Experts Tour and see if you can request Eider as your tour guide.
