Create your own handmade chopsticks using carefully selected Kyoto wood in this unique cultural workshop. In this hands-on experience, you will shape, carve, and finish your own pair of chopsticks while learning about Japanese craftsmanship and the cultural role chopsticks play in everyday dining in Japan. The workshop takes place inside a traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse, offering a relaxing and authentic atmosphere that reflects the beauty and history of Kyoto. Each participant creates a completely unique pair of chopsticks that can be used daily at home. At the end of the experience, you will take home your handmade chopsticks as a meaningful and practical souvenir from Kyoto.

Fun activity with friendly, helpful staff. Pleased with our results! The entrance didn’t have a sign so was quite tricky to find, but just go in!

It was fun choosing and making my original chopsticks! It was about less than an hour long but everything was a fantastic experience:) Grab your friends, family, or anyone to experience this amazing time!
You could choose cedar, cypress, or other lumber, and it smelled good when you shaved it. Cedar had a stronger scent. It was fun to be able to put the branding on the chopsticks that were made.
