Distressing and sad!

Visited on a tour via Tropic Wings. The animal park distressed me. A koala with her joey crossed her arms and bowed her head to protect it when she heard people coming. Photos holding koalas and other animals. If you research its been shown that it distresses the animals and some places have banned it!! The rest of the animals looked unhappy at best. Duck Tour which is why i chose to come here is very poor. A short land track and a ride around a small lake. No animals just plants. Very dated Tourist Attraction, different from the other tours Ive been on in Oz, where its about nature and natural environments for the animals . Coaches full of tourists turning up. This park is totally unnecessary. Its just a money making tourist effort with no real consideration for nature and animals. Couldnt wait to leave and regret going. Left with sad images in my head not what I want from a day trip.

Hi loopy, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’re really sorry to hear that your visit to Rainforestation Nature Park didn’t meet your expectations. Please know that the wellbeing of the animals in our care is our absolute priority. Rainforestation is accredited by the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA), which upholds high standards of animal welfare under the 5 Domains — covering nutrition, environment, health, behaviour, and mental wellbeing. All of our enclosures also exceed the minimum requirements set by Biosecurity Queensland. Koala photo experiences are managed under strict Queensland Government regulations, and our keepers always monitor the animals closely to ensure they’re comfortable and calm. If at any time a koala isn’t in the mood for interaction, they’re given the space to rest. We truly appreciate your concern and feedback, as it helps us continue to educate visitors about Australia’s native wildlife while maintaining the highest standards of care.

Thank you Miranda and Jerome and T

Thank you to Miranda for the help checking in and for helping us get the transfer sorted out as I only paid for one some how 😅 thank you Jerome for your extra time and knowledge and yarns while letting us have a little extra special time 🤫 absolutely amazing experience.. also Harry the bus driver was really nice and helpful and T was our transfer driver and she was so happy and energetic and helpful. Thank you all. It would be nice if it wasn't so hard to get to or find out information about though. The Kuranda info centre couldn't help with any information which kinda sucked but eventually we made it and it was so worth it. Please advertise yourselves more better! People come to carins to see REAL Australian culture and so many other tourists are asking why it's hard to access and "where are all the real Australians"..

Fun half-day activity

Cute half day tour to see some animals native to Australia, Duck Tour, and photo opportunities. In the nature park was able to interact directly with some of the animals.

Too touristy and contrived

This is a small, somewhat contrived nature park. We had the unfortunate experience of being there the same day as a cruise ship was in port at Cairns so it was packed with busloads of tourists. Any feeling of being in a nature park was pretty much erased by waiting in line or being among crowds of tourists. The duck boat tour is very short -- probably about 1km of actual travel -- covered over the course of about 45 minutes. That means a lot of stopping and talking about plants and maybe you'll get lucky to see one bit of wildlife. The portion of the tour in the water is very short -- maybe 10 minutes -- and it's in a man-made lake. There was a duck boat behind us and one in front of us so it didn't feel very private or natural. Lunch was included in our tour -- buffet style -- it was OK, not great. Steak (tough), sausage, potatoes, and some steamed vegetables. That's fine -- we didn't expect to come here for fine dining. The wildlife area (fenced in) allows the kangaroo and wallaby to wander freely and that means that the tourists swarm around and hug and take thousands of selfies with kangaroos. Also not very natural. When we got to the aboriginal presentation, there were 200 or 300 people sitting in the bleachers. We were getting tired and it was warm so we decided to skip that and just find a quiet place to kill time until our bus arrived. Same with the spear throwing boomerang throwing presentations. All in all, this felt more like a zoo than a nature park and if you're reasonably fit and able, there are other ways to see Australian wildlife with a bit more effort and time expenditure in their natural habitat. I would not recommend visiting.

Hi daveespo, Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. We are sorry to hear that your visit did not meet your expectations. Our Army Duck tour aims to be an educational Rainforest experience that showcase iconic Rainforest flora from both land and water, while offering the unique experience of riding a historical WWII amphibious vehicle. Our Koala and Wildlife Park offers visitors the opportunity to connect with various iconic Australian animals, including hand-feeding the free roaming kangaroos and local species of wallabies in the landscaped gardens, getting up-close with the koalas and other native wildlife. Included in the admission are a variety of Wildlife Presentations, including Crocodile Feeding, Dingo Enrichment and Feeding the Macropods. We understand that large crowds can sometimes impact the experience for our popular activities. Thank you again for your review. We appreciate your feedback as we continue to enhance our visitor experience.

Fantastic Day! 5 🤩

We had a brilliant day up at the Rainforestation In Kuranda. The Army Duck tour of the Wet Tropics Rainforest was amazing! The guide was sooo knowledgable and we learnt so much. The park was lovely and we actually met some kangaroos! The Indigenous Aboriginal experience was very informative. We loved the lunch buffet and it was very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get, as much steak as you can eat for only £13!!! Loved it all 😍

Not worth the money

The army Duck tour gave some good information about the rainforest, but it was a very small lake and it was mostly plants and trees we saw and heard about. It was not worth the money. The wildlife park is very small and we think the animals had too little space. We really looked forward to the Pamagirri experience-but we were very disappointed . The dance show looked like they did not enjoyed it and was just a little dance without any telling of the stories and traditions behind. It was fun to try to throw a boomerang but we only had one try each. It was also good to hear them play the didgeridoo. But very tourist setup with very little learning about the culture. Maybe the walkabout tour with have been better. I think so. But we got no information about the options and differences on the different tours. I bought the big package for 164 Aud. The mainly reason we did the tour was for the aboriginal experience and it was not worth it. I would rather have chosen to do aboriginal experiences in Daintree rainforest walkaboutadventure, or at Mossman Gorge.

Operator response

Hi Sara, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you enjoyed the chance to try the boomerang and listen to the didgeridoo. We are sorry to hear that some aspects of your visit did not meet your expectations. Our Army Duck tour aims to be an educational Rainforest experience that showcase iconic Rainforest flora from both land and water, while offering the unique experience of riding a historical WWII amphibious vehicle. The Pamagirri Aboriginal experience is made up of two parts: the Pamagirri Dance Performance and the Dreamtime Walk. The Pamagirri Dance Performance, held in our rainforest amphitheatre, is designed to depict aspects of Indigenous culture, including animals, food gathering, and hunting. The Dreamtime Walk provides further insight into Aboriginal traditions and beliefs, showcasing how ancient implements such as the boomerang and spear were used. There is also a demonstration of the traditional musical instrument didgeridoo, explaining how it is made and played, imitating the sounds of Australian wildlife like kangaroos, dingoes and kookaburras. We understand that cultural experiences can be personal, we strive to share both the beauty and the stories behind Australian aboriginal culture. At Rainforestation nature park, we offer three unique experiences - the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, Army Duck Rainforest Tour, and admission to the Koala & Wildlife Park. Visitors can purchase tickets to each experience separately. Or we offer a Big Nature package at a discounted price for these three experiences at $63 for an adult, $38 for a child or $164 for a family of four (2 adults and 2 children). We believe this is a reasonable price for the range of experiences included. Additionally, we also offer a Pamagirri Rainforest Walkabout tour, which provides an in-depth, interactive Indigenous experience. Visitors can purchase this experience separately or add it onto the Big Nature package. We appreciate your feedback as we strive to provide memorable experiences for all visitors.
