Chinese fishing nets(Cheena vala)are a type of stationary lift net in India. They are fishing nets that are fixed land installations for fishing. While commonly known as Chinese fishing nets in India, the more formal name for such nets is shore operated lift nets. Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20m or more across. Each structure is at least 10m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end which is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. While such nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina, in India they are mostly found in the Indian cities of Kochi and Kollam, where they have become a tourist attraction. This way of fishing is unusual in India and almost unique to the area, as it was introduced by Chinese explorers who landed there in the 14th century. Indeed, one interpretation of city name Kochi is ‘co-chin', meaning like China

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Unforgettable Tuk Tuk Experience in Kochi! We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Legendary Kochi Tuk Tuk Tour during our visit to Fort Kochi. From the moment we met Shihab, we felt very comfortable and welcomed. He was friendly, polite, patient, and extremely knowledgeable about Kochi and its history. What made this tour special was that it was not just a typical sightseeing trip. Shihab took us through the beautiful streets of Fort Kochi and showed us places that we probably would never have discovered on our own. He explained the history, culture, traditions, and everyday life of the local people in a very interesting and easy-to-understand way. We visited several important historical and cultural spots, and Shihab gave us plenty of time to enjoy each place, take photographs, and ask questions. He also recommended some great local places and helped us understand the real character of Kochi beyond the usual tourist attractions. The tuk tuk was also a fun and authentic way to explore the city. Riding through the narrow streets of Fort Kochi, seeing the old buildings, local shops, colourful streets, and meeting local people made the experience even more memorable. Shihab genuinely cares about his guests and wants them to have a great experience. He was always helpful and made sure we were comfortable throughout the tour. His knowledge of Kochi and his friendly personality made our day even more enjoyable. If you are visiting Kochi, especially Fort Kochi, we highly recommend doing this tour.
