Itinerary
Begin your experience with a scenic ride on the Koblenz Cable Car, one of the most spectacular ways to reach the fortress. Glide high above the Rhine River in a modern panoramic cabin and enjoy breathtaking aerial views of Koblenz’s Old Town, the surrounding hills, and the famous Deutsches Eck where the rivers meet. This relaxing ascent offers a unique perspective and sets the tone for the experience ahead.
Step off the cable car and arrive at the impressive Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, dramatically perched above the river valley. As you pass through its massive gates and towering walls, you will learn the fortress’s strategic importance and how it became one of Europe’s most powerful defensive strongholds. The commanding location alone reveals why this site was so vital for controlling the region.
Explore the expansive courtyards where soldiers once lived and worked. These open spaces provide insight into the scale and organization of fortress life, once home to thousands of troops. As you walk through, learn how the fortress was designed to withstand long sieges and function as a self-sufficient military complex.
Make your way to the fortress’s panoramic terraces for unforgettable views over Koblenz and beyond. From here, you’ll clearly see the iconic Deutsches Eck, where the Rhine and Moselle rivers converge. Take in sweeping vistas of the Old Town, riverbanks, and surrounding countryside while learning how this geography shaped the city’s history and importance.
Walk along the fortress walls and discover the impressive defensive features that once made this site nearly impenetrable. From bastions to lookout points, you’ll learn how soldiers monitored the landscape and defended the fortress using advanced military strategies of the time. These structures offer a fascinating glimpse into the realities of historical warfare.
View the exterior of key fortress buildings, including former barracks and storage areas, and learn about their original functions. Your guide will explain how the fortress evolved over centuries, adapting to new technologies and military needs, while preserving its commanding presence over the region.
End your time at the fortress in its quieter courtyards, now used for cultural events and relaxation. Take a moment to enjoy the atmosphere, capture final photos, or simply appreciate the blend of history and scenery before descending back to the city.
Conclude your experience with a return journey on the Koblenz Cable Car. As you glide back down, enjoy a final panoramic view of the rivers, the Old Town, and the surrounding landscape—a memorable and relaxing end to your visit.

Koblenz, Germany. 🇩🇪 Is the best place to visit with your family and friends are a photographer so visit that place for your work
We had a great time with Lisa and her guided tour. So glad we got there earlier so we could see the fortress on our own first. We took the cable car up to the fortress - well worth it!
I was there before Christmas and there was a beautiful light show, completely in the Christmas spirit. Also a nice route to follow.
Highly recommend visiting the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and this tour in particular. We took the Seilbahn (cable car) from the Deutsches Eck up to the fortress, took a short walk to the entrance and met our guide there. We had an excellent local guide, with professional knowledge of history and very good english -- could not wish a better guide. The views of the city from above are another reason to visit.
This was a great tour. Huge fortress, easy to get yourself lost. Highly recommend taking a guided tour. Much of the newer stuff is on both German and English while the older stuff is solely in German. The view from the cable cars over the Rhine are amazing as well.
Ours was not an organised tour , however we were on a cruise on the Rhine and took the cable car which also included the cost of entrance for 16.90 euros pp . Breathtaking scenery from the cable car which ran from 1 pm . The fortress was beautiful and we had it to ourselves . Views from the top amazing . I suggest this time of year coming up late afternoon as you could see it in both lights and there was a special Christmas light event on .
Nice if you take the cable car up to take a combi ticket you are not too much From the castle but it is definitely worth seeing you can also have lunch
