Gouda day trip

Steve was a fantastic tour guide! He was a world of knowledge on the history of the area, knew where to get the best stroopwafels and cheese, and provided us with a wonderful experience that we will always remember fondly.

Perfect day out

Cheese! Stroopwaffel! History! Everything we wanted from a great tour. We had a great time walking around Gouda and visiting a farm where we got some amazing (and cheep) cheese as well. Perfect trip to see the country and enjoy some non-city time.

Exactly what we wanted!

Steven was fantastic and the tour was exactly what we wanted. A comfortable car ride in the country side, expert guidance on Gouda and Oudewater, and a working dairy farm with the best cheese and ice cream ever. Steven is a perfect guide and provides a ton of local context on the locale. Context we have 2 teenage daughters who enjoyed the trip, each with their own favorite from the cheese to the witch museum. For the record, my youngest is not a witch. Oldest refused to take the test...

I had high hopes, and they were all exceeded

So many people seem to never get outside of the big cities in the Netherlands. Those people never get to see these two gems of cities. Even during a high period of tourism, these two cities were not overrun by tourists. We got to see both in their stunning charm. The history of these towns is overwhelming. Learning about the history and tragedy of "witches" and how they were "weighed" to test if they were light enough to ride a broom... and the consequences if they were indeed light enough... was sobering. Visiting a working dairy farm and trying (and buying) exceptional cheese directly from them is worth the trip by itself. And of course, trying a freshly made stroopwafel straight from the iron is quite a treat. Our guide was outstanding. Highly knowledgeable, able to work with my mother who has some mobility issues, and great to talk to. This trip is a must-do for anyone who has a full day to spend in the Netherlands.

Beautiful Gouda and Amazing Cheese Farm

This tour was a great day out Amsterdam. Steven shared insights on the history and present day culture of the Netherlands that we would not have gained without his attention and dedication. Gouda is a beautiful village worth visiting. We visited a shop that made delicious Stroopwaffles. I enjoyed the tour of the cheese farm, walking around the cattle and calves and sampling the cheese. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get a bit of a true sense of the country.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The cheese market here is no joke, but be prepared to spend significantly large amounts of money for cheese. Three blocks clost me €11 each.

Operator response

Dear LaAugu, First of all I want to thank you for the time you took to write this review. We are very happy with the 5 stars! Buying cheese is people's own decision and the prices are calculated by the weight and by the type of cheese. Old Gouda cheese is more expensive than youngh. 1 pound of old Gouda cheese for 11 euro is a bargain mostly for Americans. Truffle cheese is more expensive than 2 or 3 year old Gouda cheese. I hope you received more clearness about the prices. Kind regards, Marlou Baets

Fabulous day touring Gouda with Steven

We had an absolutely spectacular day touring Gouda and Oudewater with the delightful Steven as our guide. It was a truly memorable experience that exceeded our expectations, thanks to Steven's extensive knowledge of the Netherlands as well as his engaging personality. It was the first time I had ever seen a commercial dairy and had a freshly made delicious stroopwafle! And we discovered, much to our relief, that we were not witches. Whew! We really had no idea what to expect when we booked the tour but it really was a fun day. I highly recommend Steven!

Fun trip to Gouda and Oudewater!

We really enjoyed this excursion to Gouda, a working cheese farm and Oudewater. Steven was a wonderful guide, so knowledgeable about the area, the history and current events. He was very fun company and he escorted us to visit and explain the various sites we visited. Gouda is a lovely town, the birthplace of the Stroopwafel in addition to its famous cheese. We enjoyed sampling both. The visit to the dairy farm to learn about the business of cheese making was very interesting, especially since we are primarily city dwellers. The trip ended with a stop in the village of Oudewater for lunch and a visit to the historic weighing house. There are fun exhibits that explain Oudewater's reputation as an honest place for measurement and how one of the historic services was to weigh humans and certify they were not witches. It was fun to get weighed on the traditional hanging scales and receive certificates that we are witch-free. The day flew by and we had a great time with Steven. I would highly recommend this tour.

This was one of the best tours we have ever had. Steven felt like a long time friend. We took other tours during our trip and wish we booked Steven for all of it. The whole family enjoyed it. I can’t recommend Steven enough.
