Kayaking to Uros Floating Islands Lake Titicaca

Description

You'll paddle for around 1h across Lake Titicaca in a kayak, early enough to catch the lake before the tour boats. The route cuts through sections of the Lake Titicaca National Reserve where totora reeds grow thick along the shoreline. This is a small-group tour, so your guide can adjust the pace and point out things you'd otherwise miss: the way egrets nest in the reed islands, how the Andes change color as the sun climbs higher, where the water depth shifts. The only sounds are paddles breaking the surface and birds calling from the reeds. When you reach Uros, you'll step onto a platform woven entirely from totora and meet the family who maintains it. They'll explain how the islands are built, share stories about life on the water, and more. If you want, you can take an optional ride on a traditional reed boat. The whole experience takes half a day—long enough to feel the lake, understand how the Uros culture works, and paddle back to the city.

Unique experience

Punctual and interesting tour! The only negative point is the discomfort of the bathrooms (lack of water, cleaning and paper) on the way (boat and stopping places too).

Very interesting cultures and habits. Very good.

Very interesting tour. We saw how the communities of Uros and Taquila live, their habits and their culture. Good food included. The reason for it not being excellent (5 stars) is the discomfort of the bathroom on the boat and in the stopping places, as there is no toilet paper, water and good cleaning. The guides are very good and attentive. Tour not recommended for people with physical difficulties because you have to climb a trail on Tequila Island with a considerable incline and also at a high altitude.
