Skip the tour. Save time and money by exploring on your own

Skip the tour- explore the food of Harajuku on your own. This tour is not kawaii or cute food. We were very disappointed. The first stop was a chain matcha dessert bar. We saw the same shop everywhere in Tokyo. We're also not big matcha fans. The second shop was a sushi spam sandwich shop. It was better than I expected and would not have stopped in on my own. The third stop was a chain hard candy shop. It was cute, but again this same shop was everywhere in Tokyo and Kyoto. We also stopped for a mochi, which was the most kawaii food we experienced. Lunch was also disappointing. We stopped at a do it yourself okonomiyaki grill. We told the guide our son was a very picky eater, who really just liked chicken and rice, and sweets. All day, he ate a piece of hard candy, and a bite of the mochi. I was hoping we would stop for the famous crepes, cotton candy, and sweet potatoes that are shown in the photos, but our tour was nothing like that. It was very expensive for what we got.

Operator response

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're very sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. Our Harajuku tour is designed to showcase a mix of colorful food culture, local favorites, and the neighborhood's creative spirit rather than focusing exclusively on viral sweets or Instagram-famous treats. The stops you visited are all popular with local guests and have been very well received by many of our visitors over the years. In particular, the interactive lunch experience is usually one of the highlights of the tour, so we're sorry it wasn't enjoyable for your family. We also regret that we weren't able to find options that better suited your son's preferences. While we do our best to accommodate dietary needs and preferences where possible, we understand this affected your overall experience. We truly appreciate your comments and will review them carefully with our team to see if there are opportunities to make the tour even stronger while staying true to its original concept. Thank you again for your honest feedback, and we're sorry we didn't provide the experience you were hoping for. 💛

Great tour with a great guide, Emma.

This little tour was a great highlight of our visit to Tokyo. Emma was so much fun and took us to great little food locations all around Harajuku. We get to taste a few different types of food, learn about the area, and explore the cultural connection to the foods we were tasting. All along, keeping things fun and entertaining both for us adults and our 16-year-old son. Highly recommended.

Fun food tour in Harajuku

This tour was better than I expected! I thought we would just be doing some food tastings. But our tour guide, Hannah, explained the some of the fashion trends in Harajuku, took us to several interesting places we wouldn’t have gone to on our own and told us about the food and did all the ordering. It was great! We ended with taking cute photos at a Photo Booth.

We love hearing when a tour exceeds expectations; it means the absolute world to us! It's wonderful to hear that your tour with Hannah in the capital was able to not only share Harajuku's unique food scene, but also its fashion, culture, and discover hidden gems along the way. Finishing the experiences with fun photos in a purikura booth is always a perfect ending to a tour like this! Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're so glad you had such a great time!

Amazing way to authentically visit Harajuku

Our guide was very knowledgeable and super accommodating. She was also super patient with my overly chatty children! The food stops were well spaced, had local vibes, and were a great variety of savory/sweet. I’ve been on food walking tours all over the world and this was one of the better ones I’ve gone on.

A range of foods in an iconic fashion neighborhood

We took the tour with just our family of 3! Our guide, Hannah, was knowledge and extremely patient with our toddler. The tour itself took covered lots of different foods (not just sweets), while winding through Harajuku. Though not inexpensive, we had a positive and delicious day!

Fun experience for all ages with surprise activity at the end

Serena and Melody were awesome guides. Each member of our family had a blast exploring Harajuku and trying different foods. The guides had lots of great stories and anecdotes and tailored to each person in our group (ages 10-50). We loved the surprise activity at the end! The food was delicious and fun... but calling it "cute food" is a bit of a misnomer. But we did see a lot of fun stuff on the tour.

Harajuku food tour was amazing

The tour was excellent and we would highly recommend. All of the food options were different and things that we would not have tried or found on our own. Melody was our guide and she shared so much information with us about the area, food and interesting fun facts about Japan and the lifestyle.

Operator response

Incredible experience and elite tour guide!

We had THE best time on the Harajuku Food Tour with Ema! Honestly a highlight of our visit to Japan! It’s so cool to be with someone who lives in and knows the place sooooo well and went over and above to make sure we had an amazing time. I’m vegetarian and we were able to visit place that easily catered for me and my family too without compromising on the full Japanese experience. So much fun so cool. 11/10 recommend Ema and this tour! TYSM Ema Xxx

Kawaii Tour Harajuku

My husband and I did a food tour in Harajuku, Tokyo. Our guide Serena made the experience unforgettable for both of us. The tour took us through the streets of Harajuku, explaining not only culinary highlights but also historical and fashionable backgrounds. We were able to taste numerous local specialties in total five different places were on our program. I particularly liked the fact that we could also test sweet treats. Each stop was a small highlight and showed us the variety of Japanese cuisine in a very special way. Overall, the Food Tour was a perfect mix of enjoyment, culture and discoveries. I would do this tour again at any time.
