Jozani Forest

Description
The Jozani Forest is located in the central east region of Zanzibar Island is the home of rare Red Colobus Monkey, which is only endemic to Zanzibar. A red colobus monkey, unlike their more widespread and adapted cousins, the Black and White Colobus, are a rain forest species which are now confined to very small areas of equatorial forest in tropical Africa. It is therefore a rare treat to be able to see them here in Zanzibar. The reserve also accommodate a large mangrove swamp and a tract of natural forest that is home to a few unique species including the Sykes monkey, bush babies, duikers, hyraxes, over 50 species of butterfly and 40 species of birds.

Took tour with Captain Findus agency. A beautiful experience, exciting to see the monkeys up close. Afterwards we went to the mangroves. Advise
Nice walk through the Jozani forest with the red colobus monkeys and also blue monkeys, squirrels, birds, and so on. Then a walk through the mangroves. A guide from the national park gives good explanations. You can book this with anyone. Nice half day excursion.
It was amazing specially when it was raining new experience for me. Also wish i could play with the monkeys and feeding them.
Get a taxi or hire a car and take yourself to Jozani, go to reception and pay you will then be allocated a guide. What a fantastic experience, loads of red colobus monkeys. The treesand mangroves are stunning. The guides tell you all about the eco system and how they are trying to educate regarding the environment and how we can enhance and protect. The best trip we went to in Zanzibar, wear trainers these are not man made paths
