The second most-beautiful book shop in the world: an old theater that was converted into a book shop. A prominent British periodical named it second in its 2008 list of the World’s Ten Best Bookshops. Just stepping inside this former grand theater will take your breath away. Impressive buildings with a variety of architectural styles (including art nouveau).

95 min

A massive Victorian structure that many people stop and look at in wonder: A fantastic palace of more than 300,000 lustrous, multicolored tiles and glazed and enamel bricks. An incredible large shopping mall that used to be the city’s central wholesale fruit and vegetable market. The original art deco building & structure remain largely untouched. The area of Carlos Gardel – the most famous tango singer in history- : House facades and shops covered in “fileteado” artwork. A creative art, one-of-a-kind, full of vivid colored ornaments and symmetries that became a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The style of painting associated with Buenos Aires that has much to do with tango and that have been part of the culture of the Porteños (inhabitants of Buenos Aires) since the beginnings of the 20th century. . Also, expect to view creative street art and murals painted by local artists, a tango clothes and shoes store, for a most memorable experience. This tour includes uncommonly visited city landmarks that deviate from your typical tourist locations. Because we enter several buildings that we visit, you will get an extra personal experience of each place that most large walking tours won’t be able to offer. No visit to Buenos Aires would be complete without a visit to these fabulous places!

A different tour that you cannot miss in Buenos Aires

This is an outstanding tour. I visit Buenos Aires frequently, but this is really a tour that takes you to places very typical and different to the regular tours. Elisa is very knowledge of the history, architecture and art of Buenos Aires. You will end the tour enriched visually and with knowledge not shared in the regular tours.

Operator response

Thank You for Such a Wonderful Review! I am so pleased that, even as a frequent visitor to Buenos Aires, you found this experience to be distinct and enriching. It is always my goal to offer a perspective that goes beyond the standard sights, focusing on the unique architecture and art that define our typical neighborhoods. Thank you for your kind words about the visual and historical depth of the tour. It was a pleasure to share these "jewels" with you!

Well worth it,

The title is a great description. It was great to see & experience less ‘touristy’ areas. The guide was great. She had lots of history and knowledge of the city, architecture and art culture.

Thoughtful guide to some of the wonderful Buenos Aires treasures

We'd taken and were powerfully moved by Elisa's In the Footsteps of Dictatorship tour, and decided to sign up as well, to this tour, which is a more general tourist tour explaining local history, and looking at some really cool institutions and neighborhoods. Definitely worthwhile. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Footsteps of Dictatorship tour, but glad we ended up doing both as Elisa is super knowledgeable about the country's history, art, politics and all other aspects.

I’m so glad you found the "Jewels Off the Beaten Path" tour to be a worthwhile follow-up and that you enjoyed exploring the local art, neighborhoods, etc. I truly appreciate your repeat visit and your thoughtful recommendation!

Everything about this tour was perfect. Elisa was so considerate about what you would like to get from the tour and she made sure you missed nothing. Elisa is extremely knowledgeable about the areas we went to and shared so much of the backgrounds of places and people that left you feeling very informed. I would highly recommend doing this walking tour with Elisa.

One of a Kind!

We took this tour on our first day in Buenos Aires, and I'm so glad that we started off this way. Elisa has an amazing ability to tailor her wealth of local, historical and architectural knowledge to her audience, and was endlessly patient with our many questions. We absolutely recommend this experience to anyone wanting to learn more about the people and places who shaped Buenos Aires through an unexpected lens.

Outstanding Tour - Not to be missed!

This was a WONDERFUL tour and absolutely a great highlight of my time in BA. Elisa showed us the city through her eyes, architecture, art, history, culture, tango, all while using her own unique humour and personal flair. What I liked about this tour so much is that is was real and unique, not a standard tour you can find anywhere, this was something very special and personal. You can feel the care and effort that Elisa puts into the tour as she shows you her hometown. If you want to understand more about BA, see things you wouldn't normally and have a more local experience - don't miss this tour! Absolutely the best and such a delightful way to spend an afternoon in BA :) Thank you so much Elisa!!!

It was a great afternoon to do some walking. I always do small groups so travelers can get the personal attention that can only be achieved in a small tour group. I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks again for joining me. I will be happy to have you on the other tours, too!

Best BA Tours

The "Off the Beaten Path" tours are by far the best ways to learn about and explore Buenos Aires. We signed up for 2 of Elisa's tours, and when we return we will sign up for any tour that she offers. In addition to her expert knowledge of the local culture and history, Elisa's personable demeanor made the experience very memorable.

Operator response
