This was an extremely challenging hike and the reason why my mom and I finished was because of our amazing guide Ivan and the porters. The whole crew is what made this possible. All we did was walk but they were the ones that made the whole operation possible. It’s so inspiring and incredible to see how hard they work day after day to make us comfortable. Ivan is more than a guide for us. He is our freind and is truly the most compassionate, patient, and knowledgeable guide we have ever had. We’re blessed to have been a part of his group. Another reason why we were able to survive this trail was because of the nutritious food. William is a genius in the kitchen and we appreciate all his creativity and dedication. He is so sweet and humble about what he creates. We love AB expeditions!!!!
Could not recommend doing the Inca Trail with AB Expeditions more. Our tour guide, Yiyo, was the perfect guide - funny, smart, encouraging, and a great story teller. We had 14 porters (Santos, Pedro, Wilbur, Wilfredo, Albino, Segundo, Segundino, and seven other amazing porters) and 2 chefs (Yuri and the sus chef, Lionel) that made the trip unforgettable and incredibly doable. Yuri and Lionel were very accommodating with food allergies and dietary restrictions for every meal. Albino woke us every morning with hot Coca Tea, which is by far the best way to start any day. I'm not sure if you can request a tour guide, but if you can, you should ABSOLUTELY request Yiyo. This hike is very doable if you're in good shape; however, if you have bad asthma (like me), bring your inhaler and backup inhalers. The altitude and exertion are incredibly difficult with asthma.
An excellent experience, the whole team, the organization, the porters and the guides help make it a very enjoyable adventure. The campsites were very well prepared and equipped to be able to rest well. All the meals were excellent. The organization of the pickup and the return was also very good, without any issues. Yiyo and Sharon provided us with a lot of help and support throughout the trek, allowing everyone to be able to enjoy it. The only thing to highlight would be the date of the briefing, personally having it the day before less than 12 hours before starting the trip leaves little time if anything extra needs to be prepared that is communicated in the briefing itself. And the organization and information for Waynapicchu is not very clear on the website or at the time of booking it, it is very tight on time with the rest of the tour with Machu Picchu as well as Aguas Calientes. In general an experience that is totally worth it.
I planned this trip to wake up on my birthday at the Sun Gate overlooking Machu Picchu and not a single moment of this trek disappointed me. Yes, some parts are hard but that is when the group dug in together and made it happen. Yiyo and Sharon were the most amazing people and just as good as guides. Knowledgeable, friendly, and compassionate. The Porters and Chefs handle so much of the load and the food was amazing 3 times per day. Our camping spots had spectacular views. If you are thinking about doing this AB Expeditions is the only way to go!
It is totally worth doing this tour; the organization along the way is very good. The staff is very friendly and fun, special thanks to Yiyo and Sharon, very good guides, and the chefs who, despite being on the mountain, made us restaurant-quality meals. I met many people and made many memories, through unforgettable landscapes. As a point for improvement, it would be good if they were more transparent from the beginning. The first bitter point is that there is an extra you can pay to go to a cliff in Machu Picchu; what they never tell you is that to go there you miss part of the group tour, you have to do it alone and return alone to the meeting point in Aguas Calientes. The second point is that in the briefing they tell you that you have to give tips of approximately 100 dollars. None of these points is bad in itself, but it would be good to know it beforehand; that way you prepare yourself and decide based on that. I want to conclude that I loved the experience once it started. Thank you AB for this beautiful memory.
Yiyo, Sharon, and the team gave us an unforgettable honeymoon experience. As they guided us along the Inca Trail, their knowledge of Peru's history helped us deeply appreciate the journey before reaching the Sun Gate to explore Machu Picchu. Along the way, we enjoyed breathtaking views, remote Inca sites and some of the best food we’ve had in all of Peru. We couldn't recommend them more. Thank you so much!
It’s hard to describe the experience we just had with AB and YiYo, Sharon, Sergio, and team. It was a truly amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The initial booking and communication was excellent and prompt throughout. They were accommodating for us doing the briefing over the phone since we weren’t staying in Cusco on pickup day. They were very supportive of the fact that we were bringing our 9 year-old. The trip was phenomenal—we had a small group of wonderful people who were so kind and great with both our kids (17, 9) even though most were young adults with no children. The food was spectacular and there was so much of it! Everyone was exceptionally friendly and helpful and the gear they supplied was high quality and in great condition. The planning was superb and because our group was fast, they got us one of the best campsites I’ve ever camped at. Lastly, our guides YiYo and Sharon were just simply incredible. They spoke excellent English, communicated everything clearly, and I especially loved the detailed history talks at the sites/ruins. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with AB and having seen some other outfitters along the way, I’m 100% sure we made the right choice for this trip!
My partner and I went on this trip as part of our honeymoon. We had the most incredible time. The guides were so knowledgeable, not only about the practicalities of hiking at altitude but about the nature and history that surrounded us. I felt very looked after by them both. The food was the most amazing surprise. We expected food to keep us going and bellies full. What we received was the highest quality at breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a wide range of choices. We were amazed when the chef managed to produce a cake on day 3. The porters too worked tirelessly to make our challenging trek easier. For example, being given coca tea every morning to wake us up. The campsites too were absolutely breathtaking. We are so grateful to AB for making this such a memorable and special time.
Everything was very good. Everything was well organized and the experience has been very good.
We had a fantastic four-day experience with Aiben and Mindel. The guides were wonderful, the food was excellent, and the organization was brilliant. It was a truly unique adventure, and I would highly recommend an expedition with them to anyone looking for the best possible Inca Trail experience.
