Loved this experience. Guillermo, our guide for the day, did an amazing job helping us understand how the glacier was evolving, and the impact those changes have on the surroundings. It was a little over 2 miles, or just over 3km of hiking. Not too strenuous, as our group had a 10 year old in it, who did great.
Really nice guide. Laid back experience. Cool ice cave. Beautiful views.
The guide (Guillermo) was very careful with his clients. We were able to visit unusual places within the glacier. Excursion highly recommended.
Once in a lifetime! The glacier hike was an extraordinary and unique experience. Starting from the transport with the super jeep to the entry onto the glacier as well as the entire tour itself. Our guide Marica was fantastic. We felt safe at all times. She explained a lot about the glacier and showed us many small ice caves. It was a great experience!! Thank you!😊
Outstanding experience from the get go, even in the inclement weather. We had Angelique (Angel) as our guide and she was fantastic — knowledgeable, helpful, engaging with stories and instruction. Important point we learned: Not all guide companies are required to be licensed. But because we were hiking on part of a national park, it is required. That was reassuring.
Valentin and Flos were excellent guides. We felt safe and had a great time. The cave was filled with beautiful blues and amazing formations.
Fantastic experience! Our two guides were outstanding — personable, safety‑conscious and genuinely attentive to each person’s comfort throughout the tour. They made the glacier walk and ice cave feel both exciting and completely manageable. The pacing was ideal for mixed fitness levels, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed. A perfect way to experience Vatnajökull and learn about glaciers and ice caves in general.
Excellent tour of hiking the glacier (about a mile or so). Beautiful ice cave, guides offered to take photos and gave us plenty of time and space. Would recommend!
The tour was amazing and the guides were very knowledgeable. Not a "walking" tour, this is a strenous activity. The cave views and being able to say you hiked the glacier at the end of the day are worth it. Small group tour, only about 10 people on ours. Laid back but safety and experience focused. Best for athletic/in-shape persons with no/few limitations.
This trip was amazing! Our guide, Valetin (sorry for my likely misspelling), was very knowledgeable and engaging. Our kids (8 &11) had a great time exploring and say they would absolutely go again. Just be sure you dress properly, we left my daughter’s coat at the Airbnb, but thankfully they had rain slickers to rent. I hope we make it back to do this again on a future trip.
