The Tu Duc Mausoleum, set in a tranquil pine forest, offers a peaceful retreat and a stunning display of imperial architecture. Built as both a tomb and a royal retreat, it is a place where Emperor Tu Duc spent much of his life in contemplation. Here, travelers will explore elegant pavilions, peaceful lakes, and lush gardens while learning about the life of the emperor who was known for his poetry and for leading during turbulent times. The site’s harmonious blend of nature and architecture reflects the spiritual and intellectual legacy of the Nguyen Dynasty.
At the Incense Handicraft House, travelers will immerse themselves in Hue's vibrant tradition of incense making. This small, family-run workshop offers a unique opportunity to see how incense sticks are carefully handcrafted from natural ingredients. Guests will witness artisans roll and shape the incense, using techniques passed down through generations. Travelers will also have the chance to try their hand at creating their own incense sticks, gaining a deeper understanding of this important cultural craft that plays a vital role in Vietnamese religious ceremonies, rituals, and daily life.
A visit to the Perfume River offers a serene escape into nature and history. Travelers will enjoy a short, scenic boat ride across the calm river, which is named for the fragrant flowers that once bloomed along its banks. As the boat glides over the water, guests will have breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the iconic riverside pagoda, Thien Mu Pagoda, which sits majestically on a hill. The Perfume River holds deep historical significance and is a symbol of Hue's cultural heritage, offering travelers a chance to relax and reflect on the royal past of this beautiful city.
A traditional Hue lunch is an unforgettable culinary experience, offering travelers the chance to savor the flavors that have made Hue one of Vietnam's most famous food destinations. Guests will be treated to a carefully curated selection of local dishes, each bursting with fresh ingredients and unique flavors. The meal often starts with Bánh Khoai, a savory Hue pancake filled with shrimp, pork, and herbs, and served with a tangy dipping sauce. The highlight is Bún Bò Huế, a rich and aromatic noodle soup made with beef, lemongrass, and chili, which is a true symbol of the city’s cuisine. Accompanying dishes such as Nem Lụi (grilled pork skewers) and Gỏi Cuốn (fresh spring rolls) complete the meal, offering a delightful mix of textures and flavors. With its bold spices, fragrant herbs, and savory broths, a Hue lunch is a feast for the senses that perfectly reflects the region's rich culinary heritage.
At the Hue Citadel, travelers will step back in time to explore the grandeur of Vietnam's former imperial capital. This vast UNESCO World Heritage site, once home to the Nguyen Dynasty, offers a fascinating glimpse into royal life. Visitors will wander through majestic gates and courtyards, visit the Forbidden Purple City, and admire the intricate architecture of temples, palaces, and royal residences. There are a lot of things one can choose to see around the Chan May Port, but I highly recommend using UpTravel. We selected them through Viator and The Citadel (Hue City) Tour. With it, the day was packed, but not rushed seeing the Tu Duc Mauoleum (beautiful!), the Hue Citadel (amazing) and even learning how to make incense. We had a lovely ride on the Perfume river and an excellent Vietnamese lunch as well as enjoying a drive through the towns and countryside of Vietnam. All of this while learning the history and information from an excellent guide, Mr. Ken, who patiently answered questions while leading us through our full day. When I only get one day somewhere, I want to see it all! And in this case, though maybe not all, I felt like we saw so much without feeling at all rushed. I felt like Mr. Ken and our driver, Mr Son, did an excellent job of watching the time yet allowing us to set our pace. It was a fantastic day.
Dear Laura, thank you for choosing Up Travel for your Hue shore excursion from Chan May Port! We are delighted Mr. Ken and Mr. Son helped make the day feel full yet unhurried, from Tu Duc Mausoleum and Hue Citadel to incense making, the Perfume River ride, countryside views, and Vietnamese lunch. It was a pleasure to host you, and we truly appreciate your recommendation. A portion of your booking helps provide meals for children in Hanoi hospitals. Thank you for helping us give back to the community. Warm regards, Up Travel Vietnam
