Enjoy a wonderful adventure tour which will take you through the Horto waterfalls circuit. This is a sequence of waterfalls located within the boundaries of the Tijuca National Park. The tour is all done on hiking trails and has light level of difficulty. The place where you will hike reserves beautiful specimens of flora and usually some wildlife. Your hiking begins at the Jequitibá Waterfall as you continue following the trail and waterfalls until you reach the Shower Waterfall, also known as Box Waterfall because of the format that the rock presents itself. You can enjoy a refreshing shower at all the waterfalls in this tour. This Horto waterfalls circuit is a great alternative to the crowded beaches of the city. This circuit is, in fact, an open trail in the middle of the Atlantic Forest, within the Iguacu National Park. For those who like to walk in nature, sentr the freshness of the forest, swallow with the landscape, enjoy small animals, here a great place. Still little known because recently released to the public. With a detail, as has several ascending stretches, with digging stairs in the ground, can become difficult to complete.
Walking tour. Went with my family. Tour guide Jessie was knowlegable. We walked from the meeting point to Tijuca national park via road before branching off to the Horto waterfalls. The hike itself is moderatly challening with some steep sections requiring rope assisatance. Overalll elevation gain was about 1200 feet. The water falls were fantastic. Water wascool and inviting. Nice to shower under the waterfalls. Be careful as some of the rocks inside the waterfalls were challenging. Our group included people with differnt skill levels. Highly recommend this activity.
We are both 60+ and went on the hike early in the morning with Pietro on a private tour. Some of the reviews I had read were about how hard and difficult it was. We were offered a choice to do an easier hike or do one with 3 obstacles. We did the 3 obstacles. You are required to be able to climb some steep rocks and pull yourself with the ropes that are already hanging. I’m not going to say it was easy but we both were able to do it. You do need to have some leg and upper body strength therefore if you have any mobility or balance issues at all, do not go. All that said, once we arrived at the waterfalls it was magic! We had all of them to ourselves which was great as they get crowded really quickly if you do not get there very early (8-8:30 am). The “jacuzzi” waterfall was neat as was the first big cascade one. If you want some peace from the hustle and bustle of Rio, I would recommend this hike. The cherry on the cake was watching the capuchin monkeys right at the end of our hike.
Best and most personable guide I’ve had in any country so far. He also knew a lot about the land and explained a lot to us. He even taught us some things for where we were staying!
Rafael was the ABSOLUTE best tour guide! He was patient and personable. We learned so much about the national park and Brazil. It was a tough hike, but it was excellent! We did the early morning hike, which I’d highly recommend as it gets crowded by noon. Two of the three waterfalls we had all to ourselves!!
This was a spectacular tour. Apart from the scenery and the serenity of the waterfall, tour guide Rafael was the best. Being older and less fit, he was increasingly attentive and caring of me, nothing was too much as he supported me on the hike, he took photos for me as well. This was my last tour on this vacation and Rafael made it the BEST ONE. He was knowledgeable, funny, great company and caring, Rafael you were the best !!
Enjoyable circuit of the National Park and yes after sweating the waterfalls was exactly what we all needed. Amazing beauty everywhere you look.
This tour was extremely dangerous, and no warnings or indications of this are given on the site. I'd warn others to consider its suitability. I also intend to report this properly to the tour company and Viator, given we were almost badly hurt yesterday on the tour. This walk is NOT a "hike". The route to Jequitiba was a long, steep path that took in total 3 hours to the Waterfall and back. It involved climbing up and down sheer rock drops (4 or 5 times) that would only be safe if climbing equipment was used. It also involved crossing a long, steep,slippy horizontal rock with a drop to the right and a Waterfall trickling over it, with nothing more than a rope to hang on to (not enough to stop you falling - I nearly did and if it wasn't for my husband I'd be in hospital now). I had a panic attack from the fear, and today have a sore back, wrist and ruined clothes. Unfortunately the site won't let us upload pictures but I've shared with Viator and the tour company. There is no indication on the site of any of this on the tour web site or the info sent by message after booking to confirm collection etc. The site says the trail is "light level of difficulty", you need to have "moderate fitness" and bring shoes with "good grip". There is no mention of how steep the track is and that actual climbing up and down dangerously high steep slopes and sheer rock faces will occur. This is untrue - you need to be very fit and a confident climber. Even then, ropes and climbing equipment should be used. At at least 5 points during the route, climbing equipment should have been used and we were at serious risk of fall and significant injury. I'd strongly recommend getting more information before booking this hike, and have asked Viator / the tour company to ensure information on their site is updated ASAP.

Beautiful nature walk and waterfall. Better to walk with a guide as some of the hiking was steep and requires climbing on slippery surfaces.
